PROYECTO SOLIDARIO PARA LA INVESTIGACIÓN DE LA DIABETES “PROYECTO PAULA”

SOLIDARY PROJECT FOR DIABETES RESEARCH“PROYECTO PAULA”

http://www.proyecto-paula.org/

A LITTLE BIT OF MY HISTORY: in July, eight years ago when my daughter Paula are 8, my husband called me at work to tell me that he goes to the hospital with the girl because she gets asleep in the car and awakened her had been very difficult, and also she has the mouth very dry. I took a cab and we met at Hospital. Diagnosis was immediate, just a prick in the finger and we were told that Paula has Diabetes Mellitus 1. They took her to intensive care and in a moment the doctor told us that she was very serious, about to enter in coma and 24 hours have to be passed until they can tell us what could happen. Next day, Paula left intensive care and we began to learn how to live with DIABETES MELLITUS1

What is it exactly, why it is produced and its consequences?

It is the total destruction of insulin-making cells, so she has to inject insulin each meal, 5 times a day and one of basal insulin at night. In our case diabetes is produced by a virus, we have no genetic records. About the disease consequences, I do not say a thing because we know that in a years time, science will cure it, just tell you that our day by day is: healthy diet, well-arranged life, and daily physical activity

“PROYECTO PAULA” IS BORN

8/3/2011, at morning my daughter Paula send me this message:

“Mami, so many congratulations, today is the working women’s day and you are who works the most of all. I go to my class. Love you! Are you with the Doctor?”

At noon I told her: Sweetie, Doctor at Centro de Investigación Príncipe Felipe (CIPF): Dr. Carlos Simón (Scientific Manager), Dr Carlos Pérez Espuelas (Manager) and Dr. Déborah Burks (Diabetes Laboratory Research Manager) have treated us like important people. I have explained to them what are the motive for my visit: “To get donations for diabetes research” and they have received my initiative enthusiastically, although it is not big money, doctors have said: “Every little bit helps”. Doctors and papas have decided to called this initiative “PROYECTO PAULA” (Paula project).

Proyecto Paula begins its collaboration with INCLIVA

PROYECTO SOLIDARIO PAULA POR LA INVESTIGACIÓN DE LA DIABETES

8 Mar 2011 16:13:12 +0100

Me voy a clase.
