My Page Billboard

My Dec. 2012 hip replacement surgery was successful; at home mending for a few weeks, regaining my strength and stamina. Thanks to those who checked in on me, or tried to.

News I'm following lately:

Whole Foods CEO Again Slams Health Care for All:
Great Prices on Assault Weapons:
Apple Stiffs Foreign Captive Assemblers, Dodges Taxes:

For those who may know me a little:

I've downsized into a tiny, safe but slightly crazy place on the other side of Salem; I'm still doing a little editing and data entry; I finally got MassHealth after a 6-week insurance gap; and I'm rescheduled for hip replacement 12/19/12, after the 11/7/12 procedure was canceled due to insurance issues.

I'm thankful things in my life aren't worse, and I send my well-wishes to those struggling to recover from Hurricane Sandy and Storm Athena, as well as everyone else.

I'm really glad we don't have to see and listen to a heavy barrage of political ads all the time for a few years--or at least a couple.

I hope you all have happy, healthy, and safe holidays!

Will they hack the presidential election? According to this week's Christian Science Monitor, "if someone could get a few minutes’ unattended access to a paperless machine, that person could install a software virus that could spread to other machines and switch those machines’ votes before deleting all traces of itself."
Be prepared. Act now in three important steps:

  1. Sign the  Pledge of Action and forward it to everyone you know.
  2. Donate to our Rapid Response Fund.
  3. Organize a  Voter Assembly in your community for Nov 7th, the day after the election.
With the clock ticking, every hour brings new reports of serious voting rights violations.

From Ohio, today, came the news that experimental software patches were installed on vote counting tabulators in up to 39 Ohio counties.  The Free Press has found that an elections corporation, Election Systems and Solutions (ES&S), installed software patches that will impact 4,041,056 registered voters, including those in metropolitan Columbus and Cleveland. This software install violates Ohio law because this software has never been tested by public authorities. And this, just 5 days before Election Day.
People in Florida, Virginia and Indiana have gotten calls falsely telling them they can vote early by phone and don't need to go to a polling place. In suburban Broward County, Fla., a handful of elderly voters who requested absentee ballots say they were visited by unknown people claiming to be authorized to collect the ballots.

    Support free elections

In 2004, we organized the first No Stolen Elections! campaign and launched the Ohio Recount. In 2008, 2011, and 2012, our No More Stolen Elections! efforts have exposed fraud, forced recounts, and built momentum for hand-counted paper ballots and other essential reforms. But we can't afford to rest now. We need the resources to keep moving forward. We must be ready on Election Day.
     Please give now.
Two stolen presidential elections is two too many. The only thing that could be more true than that is that a third presidential election is being manipulated right now.
    1. Sign the  Pledge of Action and forward it to everyone you know.
    2. Donate to our Rapid Response Fund.
    3. Organize a  Voter Assembly in your community for Nov 7th, the day after the election.
    Yours for Democracy,

Spring, 2012: If you've been to this page lately, and have been wondering why it seems as though I've dropped off the face of the earth...

    1)  I am being (illegally?) forced to move by an unscrupulous landlord who wants to rent out from under me the garage that was written on my lease, and who is annoyed by the facts that I was injured in a car accident moving here, and that I am unable to shovel snow from an outdoor parking space, or unpack and sort out all my boxes from that last move.  (Isn't this discrimination against the disabled??)  Our lawyers worked out a compromise, and I am moving this May, instead of last September--but incredibly, although I have always paid rent here on time, I now have an eviction on my record, which was part of why it was so difficult for me to find another apartment.  Landlords mostly gave me the ole hairy eyeball.  I'm just moving across Salem, MA.  I like a lot of things about this area.

And, 2) in trying to track down and fix the various things that happened to me in the aforementioned car accident (2009), my doctors have discovered new medical issues that I now have to address.

I try to check back here at Care2 when I don't have online editing, sorting, packing or moving stuff to do.  I still do my clicking-to-donate at several sites almost every day, and still sign petitions at several sites almost every day--and I hope you do, too!

Have a good spring and summer!

It's time to sound the alarm.

This week, Congress could cut a deal on the budget. And if Republicans get their way, billions will be cut from vital programs that millions of Americans count on—while tax cuts for the richest are protected.

But most people don't have any idea what's at stake—and how devastating these cuts would be to their communities—even though the cuts could take effect within weeks. So we're launching an emergency campaign to spread the word. Republicans want to gut programs with enormous public support, and hope no one notices. So it's up to all of us to spark a public outcry before it's too late.

The devastating impact these cuts will have on our country—and on your community—is unprecedented. Check out the list below. If we can get it out to a million people, we can start to sound the alarm and stop the GOP. Click here to post on Facebook and Twitter, or simply forward this email.

    Thanks for all you do.

Top 10 Worst Things about the Republicans' Immoral Budget

    The Republican budget would:

    1. Destroy 700,000 jobs, according to an independent economic analysis.

    2. Zero out federal funding for National Public Radio and public television.

    3. Cut $1.3 billion from community health centers—which will deprive more than 3 million low-income people of health care over the next few months.

    4. Cut nearly a billion dollars in food and health care assistance to pregnant women, new moms, and children.

    5. Kick more than 200,000 children out of pre-school by cutting funds for Head Start.

    6. Force states to fire 65,000 teachers and aides, dramatically increasing class sizes, thanks to education cuts.

    7. Cut some or all financial aid for 9.4 million low- and middle-income college students.

    8. Slash $1.6 billion from the National Institutes of Health, a cut that experts say would "send shockwaves" through cancer research, likely result in cuts to Alzheimer's and Parkinson's research, and cause job losses.

    9. End the only federal family planning program, including cutting all federal funding that goes to Planned Parenthood to support cancer screenings and other women's health care.

    10. Send 10,000 low-income veterans into homelessness by cutting in half the number of veterans who get housing vouchers this year.

We've got to get the word out about this awful budget—right away. Please, share this with your friends on Facebook and Twitter, or by forwarding this email, today.

    Happy 1/1/11!

I've been visiting relatives a little bit lately, and am now trying to set up some song downloads for sale, and am starting physical therapy again in the aftermath of 2009's car accident and surgery.

Please note that I am not religious or vehemently political, and so do not always post everything that people kindly send me, or get to all the e-cards, because of time restraints; but I do thank you all for thinking of me whenever you might.

    My original page rant:

While I do care about the overpopulation of domesticated dogs and cats and their abuse and abandonment, and do sign petitions relating to them, they are not the main reason I am here.

I am trying to address the world's human overpopulation, and the resulting destruction of habitat and animals and global resources; and the subsequent spread of poverty, disease, illiteracy and starvation; and the unequal distribution of money and education and all other resources--water, food, land, health care, power--to the people of the world.

This planet's problems all start with people, and the problems can be at least partially fixed by people. The buck stops here.

The Truth shall set your free...But first it will piss you off!  --Gloria Steinem

    What I do when I visit Care2:

Try to "fix" whatever I can in the world, in a positive, fair, humanitarian way.

    It makes me feel good.

    What I don't do at Care2:

    1. Forward most things, especially chain letters, with very, very rare exceptions for people I know with humanitarian petitions.

    2. Get into or tolerate direct arguments with people, especially political arguments.

    3. Help to carry out political vendettas.  Hatemongers and extremists need not apply.

    It's just not fun.

I sign lots of petitions anonymously, but almost never forward any.

I try to visit my Inbox regularly, but I am not able to keep current with reading all the e-cards and "forwards."  Thank you, though.
