I live in Ohio with Jennifer, my girlfriend of three years and our baby Gabriel who was born 12/21/05. I moved here in August of 2005 to find a better life. I grew up in Connecticut but Jen grew up in Ohio. She had come to Connecticut to stay with me for about a year and moved back here with me. We're both really nice people and fun to be around. We do like to party, though we really don't get to do too much of it these days. I'm kind and extremely honest and loyal; a good and lasting friend. I'm very intelligent though you can't always tell. I'm very laid back and mellow and I have a sort of dry sense of humor. Jen is really sweet and cute and fun. You'll love her, maybe even a little bit too much. I'm a writer. I used to write for a small community newspaper where I grew up and I may try to start doing it again freelance. I may write some things and post them in my blog later.
Everything in life is a risk. There's no way to avoid it. Any job you take may not work out. Any car you buy may be a lemon. Every day you wake up could be your last. All you can do is accept that you cannot control the future and do the best you can to assess each risk for its dangers and payoff. Life is a neverending series of tests and gambles.
What Gives Me Hope
If I were Mayor, I'd make the world a better place by
If I were dictator of America, I would make it illegal for anyone to look at your credit report for anything other than loan or credit card applications. No one would be allowed to use it as a way of measuring your character for a job, an apartment or things where credit is not an issue like car insurance or a cell phone.
I would make it illegal to discriminate against pets; that includes hotels and apartments and places of business. Pets would be allowed to live and go anywhere.
I would make it illegal for any working American to be unable to afford a home and basic needs, thus minimum wage would be almost doubled and a maximum would be set on rental prices. I would make it illegal to deny a person a home because they do not have the thousands of dollars required to move in.
Drugs and prostitution would be legalized but heavily regulated. Censorship would be illegal. It's a parent's responsibility to control what their kids see and hear, not the government's and consenting adults should not be deprived of something because some kid somewhere isn't being supervised.
I would make it far more difficult to immigrate into this country: to be allowed residence here from another country one would have to undergo a series of background checks, personality and psychological tests, intelligence tests, and medical exams; one would have to prove that he or she is able to work in some line of work to support him/herself and contribute to society; one would have to learn English and a basic knowledge of our history, society and culture before being permitted. Through these tests, they would have to prove that they are good, hardworking people with compassion and kindness and a fondness for this country and for Americans in general. All illegal immigrants would be deported and banned from applying for reentry for life. The borders would be fortified. All immigrants currently in this country would have to go through all the same tests that would-be immigrants do and if they do not meet a basic level (if they are not good people basically), they would be sent home (with some exceptions). Immigrants who are currently here and do pass the tests will be required to learn English. There is no reason to swell our population with bad people. If we are to be charitable and open our doors to guests, they must not be dead weight, they must enrich our country. The economy is unable to support the population as it is. What logic is there in expanding it more.
What/who changed my life and why
My fiancee. She inadvertently gave me and my family the means to change our lives and get out of a hopeless situation. She gave me something to live and fight for when I had lost everything that ever mattered to me and I could find no reason to carry on with my life.
