God Calls Me to Work on His Field

A Christian friend, Lawrence, phoned me one night many years ago. He said to me that God gave him these verse to give it to me:

Malachi 3:1-3 – That is when I knew God was calling me.

Malachi 3:1-3“Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the LORD of hosts.1But who can endure the day of his coming, and who can stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’ soap.2He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, and they will bring offerings in righteousness to the LORD.3

God wants me to counsel people (especially, elderly, disabled, and the young) around me with compassion, patience, empathy, wisdom, discernment, and the Word of God. He wants me to bring joy t others and worship him in songs and praises.

In the past, I have served in worship team as one of the main vocal. I was also one of the church library assistant. I was also once a general manager of children fellowship. I attended Sunday church bible classes and Sunday service regularly and helped out in leading Sunday school and fellowship worship. I was also given an opportunities to learn how to lead a bible class, although without much actual experience. On another instance, I was taking care of preschool children while evening service was running. I had some evangelist training, and I am now the general manager of the basketball outreach team. I have also published poetry in fellowship magazine in the past, and have written many devotional journal that was shared with over 200 people in my Christian group online. One of my Christian article was actually published in an online Christian magazine.

My approach of in pursue the relationship and walk with God and its Word has been through continuous prayers, recognizing and giving thanks to God’s doing in my life and those around me, and actively participating in church fellowship, Sunday school, and bible study, and through self-examination, and humble before God.

I like to use flash cards to help me organizing favorite verse, and key concepts and lessons I learned in bible study and bible classes. I have also a writing practice in recording my thoughts and reflections, my prayers to God in a stack of cards and review it often.

I feel that it is very important to recognize that the talent we have might not be what God intended us to do. Because we are all short of glory, and it is not because of our greatest that we are able to serve in God’s ministry. It is God who calls us to work, be it we enjoy it, hate it, good at it, or not so good at it. When we have the heart and determination to follow God’s plan, in that we actively try to prepare our best and equip ourselves with God’s love and His Words, God will provide the means, and the way to accomplish His Work.

It is He who works in us.

He who starts the work will complete His Work in His Time. Our relationship with God is far more important than the end result of our ministry projects. God accomplishes His Work through us so we can experience God and grow in loving relationship with Him.

One of our brother in Christ reminds me an very important fact about praying before meal, that is actually applicable in all the prayers we do: When we pray before meal, we are not only giving thanks to God for our food, but it is also a daily self-reminder of God shed His Blood on the Cross for our sin, and that we shall remember Him when we pray, just as Christ has command us in each meal to remember His Body and Blood has shed for us because of His Love: this is how God express His Love for us.

When we pray in this way, we can examine our sin and confess before God. We become removed from the center of prayers and start to understand and gain perspective of God’s doing in our life. In fact, we can come to God with all kind of emotions. God understands because He once lived on earth. He is Son of God, but He is also Son of Man. Throughout the bible, authors and prophets has expressed themselves to God without reserve. And Bible did record not only their success, but also their failures.

In fact, the whole bible is a love story told by our God.

God first loves us and think of us before the world was created. He has design the perfect way to express His loves for us. If the creation story was not true, there will be no Christ to be born to men, and there will have no rapture. God provides His Words for us to show us how much He cares. He wants to reveal Himself to us and have a lasting love relationship with us.

But in order to grow in Spirit of Truth and in understanding His Great Love and His Character, He needs to let us fall sometimes. A very good example is that when a couple comes to the checkout counter in a grocery store with their kids, in order to prepare their kids with their favorite snacks, they have to take away the snacks that were in their kids’ hands. But as kids they did not understand. They whined, and complained.

Does that experience sound familiar to you in your walk with God?

In today Sunday church sermon, the pastor present a talk on Jude 1:1-2:

Jude 1:1-2Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James, To those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ:1May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.2

God has mercy, and so we are called to be the Children of God through His Blood. God loves us, and so we can be loved, and loves others. God keeps us from evil, so we can have peace in mind in midst of adversity, and that we can continue to live on in hope, love, and faith.

God has shown us mercy, loves, and His keeps throughout the Bible.

This is His Love Letter, His Love for us.

He calls the weak, the poor, the sinners, so we can experience His Love and glorify Him. If you think back in all the verses and stories in the Bible. Many servants of God were once against God, despised God. They were once evils, or have done things that were short of God’s glory. But God did not only forgive them and blessed them, He gave them a place in God’s plan, in God’s kingdom – God is slow in anger, and full of mercy and love.
