My name is Rebecca Richardson and I am the adult mentor for a group of teen activists know as KidsRock4Kids. I wanted to share a little bit about who we are and why we want to help.
On a personal note I am a self taught commercial graphic designer and photography retouching specialist who has worked locally for the past 6 years in Washington, IL. I have had the immense pleasure of creating materials for the Make-A-Wish foundation as well as developing the Ride For Wishes bicycle ride benefit in 2007. Having been a teen mother I am a vocal advocate to teens everywhere about living a proactive instead of a reactive life. I spend on average 20 to 30 hours a week researching and updating our educational blog and podcast in an effort to educate, inspire and motivate our youth into action.
At 19 I was a cage dancer in a night club in Ybor City in Tampa, Florida. They called me the Energizer Bunny because I could dance for 5 hours straight and yes I LOVED every minute of it!
My Philosophy
That life is the greatest adventure we have to experience. To many of us go through each day waiting for death and hoping for the eternal glory we might find after we are gone. I have always believed that rather than waiting to die to have a beautiful existence, I will try to find inspiration each day that I am alive and create my "heaven" here on Earth.
What Gives Me Hope
Strength and Determination of our youth gives me great hope. Teens today often get a bad wrap for being lazy or for not caring but that isn't true. Many of us do care and are eager to find our place in society. Having spent the better part of my life just "surviving" and going through the motions, I am filled with hope when I see other survivors who also choose to rise above their circumstances rather than being victimized by them.
