Revolution is the creation of new human relations by masses of people in motion to a new society, and a revolutionary tries to organize with the Subjects of Revolution - Workers, Blacks, Women, and Youth - a new society whose end is the self-development of each individuals potentials. A revolutionary individual or group tries to provide a free space for this self-development; but the question of to do this can remain abstract if seperated from the goal - the new human relations must be made the ground of the organizetion. It is our historic responsability as intellectuals and organizers to unite the passions emerging from the Subjects of Revolution both philosophically (as an expression of a new human relationship) and organizationally (what it means in our daily lives); in other words, I see our role as revolutionaries to unite our vision of a new society with its organization as new human relations here and now. I do not view this as a stagnant process, but as a Revolution-in-Permancence where each emerging contradiction becomes a challenge to re-organize and re-think ourselves as ground for the comming American Revolution.
What Gives Me Hope
If I were Mayor, I'd make the world a better place by
Decriminalize marijuana and end all military expenditures besides a standing army for 10 years; use the saved tax money from the law enforcement budget to create universal healthcare, housing, and unemployment benefits (a dole).
What/who changed my life and why
Watching Gandhi as a child in the movie theater had a tremendous effect on me and the course of my life. In college I would read his socialist-humanist philosophy, which helped sway me away from what I would now call a vulgar anarchist view with little faith in the people. I would argue that self-defence is not violence.
When the narrow bougeois form has been peeled away, what is wealth, if not the universality of needs, capacties, enjoyments, productive powers, etc., of individuals, produced in universal exchange?... What, if not the absolute elaboration of their [human] creative dispositions, without any preconditions other than antecedent historical evolution which makes the totality of this evolution - i.e. the evolution of all human powers as such, unmeasured by any previously established yardstick - an end in itself? What is this, if not a situation where humans do not reproduce themselves in any predetermined form. but produce their totality? Where they do not seek to remain something formed by the past, but are in the absolute moment of becoming? -- K. Marx
