On September 11, 2001, tragedy struck the Twin Trade towers, killing more than 3,000 people. However, the same day, 30,000 people died from a tragedy that continues to strike daily, hourly, by the minute - hunger and preventable water-borne diseases
Every 2 seconds, another person dies from malnourishment
Every 14 seconds, another child is orphaned
Every day, approximately 38,000 men, women, an children die from starvation and other preventable causes.
29,000 children died from preventable water-borne diseases today. Most of them were under the age of five.
To put that into perspective, imagine throwing a party, and having 1,000 guests show up. Now image 30,000 in your backyard. It boggles the mind. What are we doing about it?
The pledge:
No action of mine will be so cruel that a future leader will need to fall on his knees in shame for the history of his countrymen. I will not give consent to injustice, or inhumanities by staying silently by and looking the other way. This pledge I take to all humanity, and to all that is sacred to me.
With this pledge I make my knee fall to ask forgiveness for the atrocities done in my name, or by me. History will not be repeated through my actions, or my silence. The buck stops here. Let us bridge the gap.
