I just finished teaching english at a Japanese high school. I finished a higher degree in my hometown, Wellington. My passions are international relations and the environment, but also practically helping causes I think worthwhile. Although I love my past subject of choice, history, I never want to be stuck merely researching in dusty institutions. Having grown up in New Zealand with two excellent role models as parents I feel that I have to commit to something in which I feel morally engaged, and also take into consideration the environment around me.
I am a history grad but determined to do more than just sit around and produce endless volumes designed to catch dust. I want to do something that helps others and solves problems such as the current environmental chaos.
On the outside you would probably presume me to be someone who was 'socially conservative', whereas if you got to know my views I am pretty into conservation and the environmental issues we need to solve to safeguard this planet...(don't judge a book by its cover).
My Philosophy
One's path in life is to try and search for the right path oneself, not persecute others for their deviations, but to direct them towards a correct road where possible. We are part of the wider world around us and as soon as we forget that we damage what is truly important. (Even though I am sinical about the present, I hold onto some idealism, as without it any future is bleak).
What Gives Me Hope
It doesn't look like the republicans will win the next election, so we may be able to start piecing things back together.
If I were Mayor, I'd make the world a better place by
Come to some serious environmental accord that put George W and his past apathy to shame
What/who changed my life and why
George W. Bush and Dick Cheney -- Their regime came into power in my formative years as a student. I know what to fight against - their mindset and form of self interest that provides paramount example of peoples' destructive attitudes to others and the environment around them.
