I am a wife and mother. I am a compassionate person who knows, you can't learn only from good happenings. Bad comes with the package of life. I grew up in a very rough childhood of incest and divorce and swore when I had children of my own no harm would come to them. My oldest is 25 and youngest 16. I've so far done a great job. My kids have had a productive childhood with very little set backs. I love animals to the point I have had to promise my husband I would not bring home any more strays. All the animals we have now have come to us. I feel we were meant to be together. I have rescued animals form situations they would not survive. When we moved out to this farm house built in 1904 we had 2, 4 week old baby raccoons under our house. Mom never came back. We put them in a box and took them to animal rescue. They were so cute. December 2005 we rescued a lost 3 pound, 4 week old puppy from Mexico. Wanting to but not meaning to bring him home, I let my husband decide what to do. His name is Memo (may-moe) and he is part of our family. He now weighs about 30 pounds and celebrated his first year on Thanksgiving, That's about when he was born. I am an artist that has put her art on hold until my kids are on their own. It's like an addiction for me. once I start drawing. I can't be bothered. The art will wait 2 more years. I love to walk barefoot in my garden in the warm months. My entire garden is about 30' by 150' large. My favorite thing to grow is sweet basil. I usually have 2-3 30 foot rows of basil alone. I harvest my basil and process into pesto (adding salt, cheese and nuts later) and freeze so I can enjoy almost fresh pesto in the middle of winter. My freezer is half full of pesto. I also grow tomatoes and peppers, onion , garlic, corn, eggplant, grapes, raspberries, marion berries and herbs along with other produce. I put by most of my produce by canning and drying. I enjoy this and feel there's no store bought product fresh or processed that can compare. There's nothing like being able to create wonderful food that comes from your own garden and pantry. I wont by a lot of store bought produce because of the way it is grown and transported. For example: Tomatoes are picked green then during transport they get sprayed with some odd chemical to turn them red. This chemical does not ripen the tomatoes and that is why they are so flavorless bought at a regular store. So think about that next time you want to buy a tomato. If you have any space that can be turned into a garden you should grow your own foods. It's so rewarding.
