Well, I'm rather lazy sometimes about filling out user profiles very completely. I guess you could check out my home page to find out a bit more about me.
As you might have guessed, "Apollia Pirandello" isn't my real name. It's my name in Second Life - http://secondlife.com/ . The picture I use is my avatar in Second Life.
Anyhow, I think the most important thing I should mention is, I started a pod over on Zaadz:
Donations & Microdonations for Individuals & Groups: http://pods.zaadz.com/microdonations
Every bit counts. Especially when it comes to microdonations... :-)
What Gives Me Hope
Microdonations! The fact that if numerous people each gave $1, it would add up to a tremendous amount of money which could make a huge, positive difference in the world - and all without any of the donors having to be rich, or having to hurt themselves by making a large contribution they really can't afford, in order to really help.
For instance, if the currently over 7.5 million Care2 members all donated $1 to something, that would be over $7,500,000!
And if they did that every week of the year, at the cost of only about $4 or $5 per month, it would add up to $7,500,000 * 52 weeks = $390,000,000!
If I were Mayor, I'd make the world a better place by
Re-illegalize usury and outrageous fees on credit cards and other loans. Cancel all third world national debt. Perhaps even all national debt. Cancel all income taxes and property taxes. Do something to stop economic inflation. Make it so insurance isn't mandatory anymore (it costs too much to force people to pay for it). Decrease dependency on fossil fuels, oil, etc. Decrease pollution as much as possible.
Scrap the broken child support system - lots of innocent people are hurt by it, innocent folks being hauled off to jail due to errors, etc., etc., and it scares and hurts families, including mine.
What child would want their father hauled off to jail simply because he was too poor to be able to afford child support for that child? Wouldn't the average child feel horrified, heartbroken, and perhaps even guilty, knowing that their daddy is going to jail due to being unable to pay child support for that child?
The child support system, as it is now, is evil - and in ways too numerous to list here.
