We founded Spots and Stripes (http://www.spotsandstripes.net/) on a couple simple principles: First, when someone donates to a charity such as ours, they should know their money is going to the cause, not people. We are legally barred from taking any salary or other compensation thanks to the I.R.S. Agent who oversaw and approved our 501(c)(3) Tax-Exempt status application. We enlisted his aid, as an expert in the field, to write a section of our Articles of Incorporation to state that no founders, board members or officers could ever get paid. Never, ever - long after my wife and I have left this existance, Spots and Stripes will live on and never pay a salary to anyone.
Second, our motto is "Saving Cats, Four Paws at a Time". Wild cats, that is. Not just Tigers, leopards and cheetahs, but feral cats. Those cats thrown away by people, left to fend for themselves in the great outdoors. Through Capture-Neuter-Release, vet checking, vaccinating and then monitoring and caring for their colonies, we've managed in two years to prevent over 100 BILLION unwanted kittens! (Fact: One fertile female kitten can produce, with her offspring, over 400,000 kittens in seven years! But she won't be around to know them - her life expectancy is only two-four years) We also work globally with other groups to preserve bigger cats, when possible provide grants to low-income families to help offset vet bills, and aid the elderly in looking after their life-long companions.
Our goal
is to build four shelters without cages and a no-kill policy. Adopt out those ferals who we can socialize, have a hospice for dying cats, and a retirement home for those whose caretakers have passed away or can no longer tend to their needs. Our cats know no politics, and accept help from any and all. Can you lend a hand as well?
Husband, Cat-Whisperer, father and grandfather, ex-warrior whose mission has changed to God, family, and cats. Disabled, four back ops, titanium instead of bone. Heart of gold. Big man who cries a lot and isn't ashamed of it. Cats and God have saved my live so many times, I owe them the same. They brought me out of depression, and gave me a reason to go on when all I could think about was being a burden on my wife, and how she could use my life insurance. I despise "charities" that pay their founders, officers and lobbyist while the subject of their cause goes without. We make no money operating our charity, and thanks to the IRS agent supervising our 501(c)(3) application, no one at Spots and Stripes ever will. He helped us by writing part of our "Articles of Incorporation" to put that clause in stone.
