I have a garden of my own Shining with flow'rs of ev'ry hue; I lov'd it dearly while alone, But I shall love it more with you: And there the golden bees shal come In summer time at break of morn, And wake us with their busy hum Around the Siha's fragrant thorn.
I have a fawn from Aden's land, On leafy buds and berries nurst; And you shall feed him from your hand, Though he may start with fear at first. And I will lead you where he lies For shelter in the noontide heat, And you may touch his sleeping eyes, And feel his little silv'ry feet.
An old man, going a lone highway, Came, at the evening, cold and gray, To a chasm, vast, and deep, and wide, Through which was flowing a sullen tide. The old man crossed in the twilight dim; The sullen stream had no fears for him; But he turned, when safe on the other side, And built a bridge to span the tide. "Old man," said a fellow pilgrim, near, "You are wasting strength with building here; Your journey will end with the ending day; You never again must pass this way; You have crossed the chasm, deep and wide-- Why build you the bridge at the eventide?"
The builder lifted his old gray head: "Good friend, in the path I have come," he said, "There followeth after me today A youth, whose feet must pass this way. This chasm, that has been naught to me, To that fair-haired youth may a pitfall be. He, too, must cross in the twilight dim; Good friend, I am building the bridge for him."
Queen Elizabeth Rose...my mother planted this in my garden several years ago. She has alzhimers, but can remember her gardens better than you can imagine. She just turned 87 on July 12 and I photographed and matted this picture as one of her gifts.

My Blackberry Cobbler
2 cups blackberries, washed and hulled
6-8 peaches, peeled and sliced
1 - 1 1/2 cups sugar
1/4 cup creme de Cassis
1 stick unsalted butter, cut in small pieces
3 tablespoons melted butter
1 Two crust package Betty Crocker Pie Crust Mix or your choice of pie pastry
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In large bowl, gently stir blackberries, peaches, sugar and cassis until fruit is coated; let stand for about 30 minutes or until sugar is dissolved. Grease a 9 x 12 baking pan with butter. Pour prepared fruit into pan and top with pie pastry.
Follow the directions on the BC box, roll out dough about 1/8" thick. I use small amounts of the dough, roll, then cut into odd shaped pieces...placing it in a crazy quilt pattern of sorts. Use a thin-bladed knife to make slits, for venting steam, in the pastry. Brush with melted butter, sprinkle sugar over surface and bake for 1 hour or until browned and bubbly.
