Our Prime Minister of Canada wants to privatize Jasper National Park.

This petition is grossly misleading. First of all, the park has a percentage allowance for commercial development, which is crucial to the Jasper town site's survival, despite what many of the seasonally-employed granola residents might have us believe. This commercial allowance makes things like Marmot Basin Ski Area, the Columbia Ice Fields interpretative tours, Maligne Lake boat tours, and guided fishing outfits possible.

The commercial development being opposed by this petition is the Glacier Discovery Walk at the Tangle Ridge view point (which is currently a paved rest area off of the Columbia Icefields parkway), and the company that's in charge of the project is Brewster Canada - a tourism company that began informally in 1892 in the Canadian Rockies. Founder John Brewster was one of the first outfitters in the region.

This could be a slippery slope.
