It is with great pride, a clear sense of accomplishment and personal satisfaction that we announce our departure as Executive Director of NAPHIA, effective January 1, 2011.
In the near future, I will be announcing my future plans, and certainly those plans will include continued involvement in pet health related issues and business.
During my involvement in efforts to communicate the value of pet health insurance (as Executive Director of NAPHIA, and previously through Salmon Creek PR), there have been many milestones reached that have made a measurable difference in the lives of pets and pet owners. We have been very fortunate to participate and play a small part of communicating the tireless efforts of others and the positive difference that quality pet health insurance provides.
There have been enormous investments and countless hours of work of tireless devotion to improve the health and resources for pets. These efforts include the founding members of the Board of Directors of NAPHIA. Founding members are; Darryl Rawlings, CEO of Trupanion, Dennis Rushovich, CEO of Hartville Group Inc. – ASPCA Pets Health Care Plan), Randy Valpy, president and CEO of SecuriCan General Insurance Co. (PetSecure Canada) and Jack Stephens, DVM, Founder and President of Pets Best Insurance.
The past and continued success of pet health insurance has a strong and undeniable link to Dr. Jack Stephens. He has invested a great portion of his life in the development of pet health insurance to provide more resources for the good health of pets. His work has directly provided measurable reductions of economic euthanasia and directly has saved tens of thousands of pets and untold hardship of pet owners in the United States. Nearly thirty years ago, Jack put together a group of around 700 veterinarians that each contributed $1,000 to create what is now the largest and oldest pet health insurance provider in the United States.
In 2006, Jack’s vision and wisdom brought together key pet health insurance providers and leading members of the pet health community to the Summit. From the Summit, the founding pet health insurance providers agreed to form NAPHIA as a non-profit organization to bolster the awareness and quality of pet insurance.
The Summit also included board members of The American Veterinary Medical Association, board members of The American Animal Hospital Association, board members of The Morris Animal Foundation, Mary Beth Leininger, DVM, Director, Professional Affairs for Hill’s Pet Nutrition, John Francis, Vice President and General Manager of MWI Veterinary Supply, Ronald Brakke, CEO of Brakke Consulting, and Thomas Catanzaro, DVM, of Veterinary Consulting International. The Summit was planned and coordinated by Salmon Creek PR and the objectives were facilitated by Gerald Faust, PhD, of Faust Consulting.
The message and the value of quality pet health insurance is now reaching an unprecedented audience of millions and millions of stakeholders. Today this means that fewer pets are being euthanized; more pet owners are being spared the excruciating decision of providing needed care or putting their pet down. And care-providers are able to now continue care in situations where it just was not possible before as more pet owners have pet health insurance coverage.
Please continue to support NAPHIA and all quality pet health insurance products. Pet Health Insurance is a measurable means to improve the health and happiness of all that enjoy a connection to a loving pet. Your support is life-saving and is making a difference. Also thank you for the kind and positive support that you have extended personally!
