Certainly they strongly disagree and do the insults ever fly!  Back to the issue of debating vegans in an old article written about hunting. (Not all vegans are insulting, some are). As a result of commenting in that article I have been attacked in the comment section in 5 Things To Know About Raising Backyard Chickens by a vegan because of my comments In Defence Of Hunting article. Had simply used this article as an example because the comment section there is one of the longest comment sections that I have seen on Care2 and an example of how people scream insults at each other instead of accepting their differences. I had merely mentioned that some people hunt because of poverty and another woman was slammed for the same point, she had said that she did not hunt but lived in the southern States where very poor people needed to put food on the table so some went hunting. I have travelled in some of the southern states and was rather shocked at how poverty stricken some of the areas are with few of the social assistance programs that countries such as Canada have. This vegan stated in the backyard chicken article:

"Dale O. Your profile says it all. You have minimal empathy for animals and are an advocate of hunting. HMMMM!!!  As a Doctor I am well aware of the health benefits of being vegan as well as the benefits for our animal friends. Maybe if you tried it you would display an improved disposition and temperament. Very few vegans are morbidly obese, What is your (BMI) Basal Metabolic Index, Dale O?"

Another vegan attacked omnivores elsewhere and asked us to post our profile photos.  Many women don't because sexual predators make unwanted remarks so a lot of women post flowers or other photos.

Asking my BMI is a personal question, I am not in the habit of posting personal medical information on the internet. Perhaps this doctor (?) (others state this person is not one in the backyard chickens article, don't know and don't care) wants a fax of my medical records, perhaps videos of my daily two hour walks by the river, my Tai Chi, canoeing, kayaking and other activities. Had a paper route for eleven years, cook food from scratch avoiding processed and highly refined foods. Eat mostly veggies, legumes, grains, fruit and small amounts of organic non-factory farmed meat. Factory farms have nasty conditions while organic farms have animals outside seeing the sunshine not in crammed in cages in darkened conditions.

Then that vegan made snide remarks about me having a paper route as a career. So funny, I was a child when delivering papers and gave it up in high school.  Whatever. Guess that some people are some embittered about others they can do little other than make personal insults rather than discussing the merits of their beliefs in a rational manner.

Yet another vegan in the article A Diet Of Compassion Will Help You Lose Weight does not even debate the issue but accuses meat eaters of not taking meds, needing therapy, being grandmas (?!) in rocking chairs, drinking moonshine...somewhat akin to being a child at recess giving endless taunts but not even addressing the discussion in the article about stress, metabolism and how stress affects us while we eat compared to when we are relaxed.

 

 

As for her accusation that I have no empathy for animals, I developed an allergy to cats but never gave up the 16 year old blind cat and will always have a cat companion.  I adopt from the local no kill shelter.  Took in an 8 year old dog called Robbie as his family faced poverty and could no longer care for him, they cried for half an hour at the shelter before leaving him there.  Senior animals need adoption as well and Robbie gave me years of companionship. Walking the dogs from the shelter is also good exercise as people are needed to walk shelter dogs.

Personal attacks on others and invective without debating the point in question in a calm and measured way is a sign of a bully. One can have strong views without insulting others or asking for one's profile photo or BMI.  Hate to break it to some people but not all meat eaters are obese or have severe illnesses. Over indulgence on a regular basis leads to health troubles. Following a well balanced diet and a good exercise program ensures for the most part good health. Even some vegans and vegetarians die of cancer and there are people who never smoke a day in their lives, aren't exposed to much second hand smoke and die of lung cancer. Or people leading a healthy lifestyle and some will get an illness that one would associate with an unhealthy lifestyle.

Invective and insults are evident in other articles as well: Peanuts, Coke and Other Odd Food Combinations, 5 Things To Know About Backyard Chickens, Since Other Animals Are Predators Why Shouldn't We Eat Animals, 5 Reasons Why Meat-Eating Isn't A Personal Choice and many other articles too numerous to mention. One can also note that the comments get nasty in other subjects such as women's rights, gun control (some growled at me since I suggested that civilians have no need for semi-automatic weapons)...acting as if governments will seize their freedom if they can't have semi-autos.  There was even an article discussing the NRA's statement that being against gun ownership is...wait for it...racist. Then one can go onto the issue of religion, homosexuals and even Deepak Chopra will upset some after reading his articles. Not everyone has the same opinion but calling people addicted drones or other things if they eat meat or seeing some Americans insulting each other over gun control is bizarre. If I mention that there is gun control in Canada (such as hand guns) I will get the standard "first they take away your guns and then your liberty" even though a number of western countries have gun control and freedom going on at the same time. Some people won't debate but hurl insult if one doesn't fit into what they believe the world should be like.

Being mellow to avoid stress and heart attacks as I watch a friend while he drives yelling at bad drivers, getting so upset...just breathe you will feel better... munching on various types of lettuce and salads every now and then but enjoying BBQ steak every so often.

Miss the lovely cat who owned me until she passed away December 7, 2012 at age sixteen. I sang her song as I held her paw while she was put to sleep.

Oh Care2, for the days when I logged in and that was it, these days I have to log in many times at one sitting, often after reading an article and making a comment and then going to another and making a comment then C2 is asking me to log in again, then my comment goes into cyberspace so I have to comment again to make the previous comment appear...and now, every time I try and redeem my butterfly points...I can do a few and then Unknown Error occurs.  Sigh...

Looks like my profile took a mystery hike again and a friend kindly informed me that my profile page was, sigh, yet again missing.  It took some time of piddling around to get it back...best instructions are in Need Help In Care2?  Thread - Making your profile visible.

*kittyhug3*    NOTICE!!!! *kittyhug3*    I am NOT DALE S., the abusive and evil cat hater!  THE 16 YEAR OLD BLIND CAT THAT OWNS ME WOULD NOT ASSOCIATE WITH A CAT HATER.

Am in the eternal but ineffective humorous campaign to end winter in Canada or at least limit its range to a two week period in late December. Obviously, Mother Nature likes Canada (except for parts of Lotusland on the West coast) to be frozen rock solid for parts of the year. The summer on the other hand is often hot, humid and at times even hotter than tropical islands.  A brief mild start to Spring and then the gentle Spring launches into a torrid of mosquitoes, black flies and a blast of heat that lasts til mid autumn. Canada, climate of extremes.  Scraping the ice off the windshield of the car in one season and roasting like chestnuts on the fire in another. No real gentle transition to another season...just zap, it is here! Winter, too long, too cold and too dark early in the day. Bring me Spring at least and some leafy green trees.

In the very unfair article: "INFOGRAPHIC: THE WORLD'S CUTEST KILLERS" using flawed "research" data a man called Dale S (all his evil cat hating comments now deleted as many people including me flagged his hateful, spiteful comments against cats). Sadly, a few people have mistaken me, Dale O. for Dale S.  He began commenting his cat hate in the article days before I read the article and made comments against him and many people making comments simply used his first name Dale without the last initial.  To clear things up, I am PRO CAT, love all cats having lived with cats my entire life and will always have cats even though I am now allergic.  Too bad, cats and me are inseparable.

~ Joy ~ The comments (many of mine that went missing) have all reappeared and now I see in the group Need Help In Care2? that the comments, petitions and other items of other members have also vanished for days on end only to magically reappear as well. (This is not the same as when someone gets suspended for bad behaviour and their comments are deleted on purpose by Care2 itself.)

Perhaps the comments got tired of the hot, dry summer and went to the Oasis (in the group Need Help In Care2) featured in the thread Oasis - In The Company Of Trees -  for some tranquil feel good times.  After a stay with the trees the comments were pleased, satisfied and reappeared back to where they belong.  If your own comments should vanish, have faith, they should return sometime or other.  Why it happens, I have no idea, one of the mysteries of cyberspace and Care2.

Many people posted in Need Help In Care2? about their comments mysteriously vanishing...must be a technical glitch as no one had been suspended.  Had not been suspended or any action taken against me, but our comments had just vanished.  Have also heard of comments posted in groups (all my group comments were still there) as well as group threads had also been vanishing.  Soooo, the comments were up there in the mysterious Spanish Moss and some who have had their comments disappear have found them reappear later. Also my profile had disappeared but CARE2 -need help has information on how to get it back when it says "No visible profile"--it has gone back to the original default position when you joined Care2. and the thread shows you how to restore your profile page back to where it used to be, but you have to reset the default to Public View once again.

The instructions are there.  It was easy for me as Zen gave me good instructions in Care 2 Need Help group--it happens to people and the instructions to restore are posted.  Good to know for anyone never having problem and finding out beforehand rather than being in a panic when it suddenly happens as My Page also disappears to you and all members.
