"I call it the cubic centimeter of chance. All of us, whether or not we are warriors, have a cubic centimeter of chance that pops out in front of our eyes from time to time. The difference between an average man and a warrior is that the warrior is aware of this, and one of his tasks is to be alert, deliberatly waiting, so that when his cubic centimeter pops out he has the necessary speed, the prowess to pick it up." Don Juan "Journey to Ixtlan" ...Richard returned with urgent news. "They were at work!" Hundreds of acres, down south. The trees were going fast. Three tractors pulling a gigantic anchor chain. "Those trees are being ripped up at an incredible speed!" It was an incredible scene. Pinyon trees were falling by the hundreds. Suddenly the tractors stopped, and the silence was startling. When we looked back there were dead, sprawling trees as far as we could see. The huge chain had come to rest against against the trunks of those trees next to go. I wondered whether in the consciousness of these trees there was a sense of bewilderment or terror. "Look at these trees," Rolling Thunder said. "Some of the elders here are over five hundred years old." "They've taken everything," he said, "killed every bit of life here -- trees, Indian tea, sacred herbs, everything." He stood motionless by the dying tree for a few moments, then filled his pipe and lit it. He made a simple sacrifice and talked in a quiet way to the Great Spirit. Then he spoke to the trees, as if he felt a need to say some words to them. He had not come only to engage in a futile struggle against the destruction. He had come to be with the trees, and now his thoughts were with them. His voice became muted and I could perceive a tightness in his throat. He spoke slowly, almost stuttering. "...and we ask that the trees be allowed to return, to grow again in this place where they belong, and until that day there be peace presiding over this land. We ask that the shock of this tragedy...that this confusion and fear..." His voice trailed off. He began to scan the hills on either side, but then he looked into the sky and was stone still. I could hear him breathing. This was too painful a sight for a custodian of the land. "Rolling Thunder"Doug Boyd

1. All life has value in itself, independent of its usefulness to humans. 2. Richness and diversity contribute to life's well- being and have value in themselves. 3. Humans have no right to reduce this richness and diversity except to satisfy vital needs in a responsible way. 4. The impact of humans in the world is excessive and rapidly getting worse. 5. Human lifestyles and population are key elements of this impact. 6. The diversity of life, including cultures, can flourish only with reduced human impact. 7. Basic ideological, political, economic, and tehnological structures must therefore change. 8. Those who accept the foregoing points have an obligation to participate in implementing the necessary changes and to do so peacefully and democratically. Arne Naess
Follow Your Bliss DESIDERATA Go placidly amid the noise and haste and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all people.Speak your truth quietly and clearly. Listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant, for they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive people, they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself to others you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser people than yourself. Enjoy your achievemnets as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career. However humble, it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in all your affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many people strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither, be cynical about love, for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering things of youth. Nurture stregth of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distess yourself with imaginings. many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars, you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you conceive him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy. Max Ehrmann 1927

As Yanni said appreciate life as it is very fragile and short. So enjoy your day, be it spent in a whirlwind of family joys or quietly alone with a good book, a walk among nature, or with a special someone. Today Life is your Gift! I'm honored to spend this small part within it.
The two songs I chose to celebrate the new year of 2013 are Niki Nana meaning We Are One or as Lakota say Mitakuye Oyasin. The other song hails from the sixties but we need this as much today as then. Peace, we must speak up for Peace more often! Let 2012 be the end of the old ways 2013 the beginning of better ways. HAPPY NEW YEAR

Mother Teresa - - Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echos are truly endless. Mother Teresa - - Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Mother Teresa- -If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.
