"...On Sunday, 23rd March, 2008 at approximately 8:30 a.m., while preparing to leave Montague ramp, I heard a "dragging sound". I turned north toward the sea, where the sound was coming from. To my horror, I saw a large turtle, with a rope around it's neck being dragged from the water, like a log. Immediately, I knew this was wrong. I took my cell phone out and snapped the attached photo.
He dragged the turtle to the edge of the ramp near the road and flipped it on it's back. Then place his foot on the Turtle's chest.
I ask one of the stall attendants what they were going to do with the turtle, again to my horror, I was told that they will keep the turtle out there until someone comes and pay them up to $1,000.00 to release the turtle. If this does not happen, they will "cut it up" and sell it.
On the way to my car, I literally got sick to my stomach. I've never seen an innocent creature treated so cruelly in my life.
I know absolutely nothing about marine life, but I do know that this was a huge turtle and common sense should have been the trump card of the day..."
