View from Bearfence Mountain, Shenandoah National Forest, Shenandoah National Forest March 2002:
This hike is for the surefooted and those not afraid of heights. The majority of this short hike (0.8 miles round trip) is a rock scramble and consists of rocks and boulders of various sizes and shapes and angles on a steady, and sometimes perilous, uphill. This hike has blazes not on the trees, but on the rocks. (Note the blue blaze near the center of the picture) There are areas where if you take a wrong step it's time to close the book, last chapter.
