...so goes the finest rock. Many buckets of sand were sifted in the making of this oven. The larger rocks were utilized as filler in the oven's foundation.

Name Tags
After filling the foundation with a mix of loose rock and small boulders, we packed a 2" layer of cob over rubble to create a recepticle for sand. I like the idea of participants placing their names somewhere in the oven, marking their contribution

Brick Laying
The bricks are laid in a sand bed, which serves as both an insulation medium and allows for adjustments in brick placement, before creating the sand form.

Beginning the Sand Form
We placed newspaper between the bricks and form to avoid too much sand falling between the bricks. Our stock of bricks was rather erratic in size and quality, unfortunately, this meant that large spaces existed between them.
