About 200 million years ago we had active volcanos in Sweden. But at that time Sweden was not a northern cold country either.
Here in Rallate, near the Skäralid National Park, you can touch the hot boiling lava streaming out of the volcano!
Of course i´t is not boiling any more and the lava has been slowly cooling and cristallized to black basalt columns.
Nowadays trees grow on the cuppa and their roots search water down between the columns.
And the snow melts and freezes to ice which try to apart the coloumns. Here I think that a human being has helpt Nature to break a piece of the coloumns as you can see the clean surface. I also found some fragments of stone with its caracteristic black surface of fracture.
