58 years after he helped liberate the Phillipines, Burt Wollan is finally awarded the Purple Star. We shared laffs in August 2005. He again showed pictures of dead Japanese soldiers. Images of islanders returning to their homes from hiding places in the mountains were meaningful to uncle Burt. He felts helping the Filipinos was worth a lifetime of scars. Burt died in Fall 2006. Being a Disabled Veteran did NOT diminish his life. He enjoyed his daughters, friends, music, world news, Montana and being a grampa.
