I went to Halsey to trap cats for a blind old woman feeding ferals. I went into the situation blind myself, having some free spots left in a mobile surgery clinic being held the next day. The woman was supposedly feeding around 30 cats and I figured I could quickly trap four or five, to fill the rest of the reserved clinic spots I had. Well, I only trapped one and saw only one other cat. Turns out, some neighbor had anti-freeze poisoned to death the rest plus some tame owned cats, too. It was very difficult to learn this, to know feral Betty could not go back despite the fact she was lactating. She had some kidney damage too, probably from ingesting a bit of the poison but not enough to kill her. She stayed in my bedroom for a month, playing wildly nights with a rescued Lynx Point Siamese while I slept on the floor in my tiny living room. I found her a good place to go finally. Happy ending!!!
