I work as a wildlife biologist and visit many places throughout California. I always have my camera on person just in case I come across a rare opportunity to capture wildlife in action. I prefer small compact cameras that can take awesome pictures without having to shuffle a complex array of lenses and tripods. I experiment with my small Fugi Film digital 5.1 Megapix camera - trying out various setting combinations. I think I finally stumbled across a good combo - 400 speed + 5 megs + auto focus and the flower setting. So far, I've been pleased with how my flower closeups are coming out. Previous efforts end up with an in-focus background (i.e., sand) and a blurry flower. Ugggh.
I am really impressed with your studies of desert life ~
