http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/return-abducted-minor-sean-goldman-to-his-father

Four years ago Sean Goldman was abducted by his mother, Bruna Bianchi Goldman, to Brazil. After her recent death, the man recently married to Bruna was shockingly awarded temporary custody by a Brazilian court. Ever since the kidnapping, David Goldman has waged a legal battle to have Sean returned as required by U.S. law and an international treaty signed by both the U.S. and Brazil.

How can a stranger be permitted to adopt a man's child when that man has never been accused of wrong doing?

My heart goes out to David, Sean and their family. With all the media attention and focus his case has garnered I believe Sean will be able to come home soon. I hope at some point all this media focus on David’s case will lead to someone asking the obvious, what about Mexico? There is a resolution in the House to put pressure on Brazil, but Brazil is more compliant with their Hague obligations than Mexico and only has a small fraction of the 300+ cases of family kidnapping that occur ever year with Children being taken to Mexico. I initiated Hague proceedings in Mexico in August ‘07 and have flown there twice now. The family court judge there has yet to render a verdict and even when she does, irrespective of what it is, I may have to wait out the appeals process.

Carlos, you are right, this issue is certainly much bigger then I ever imagined when I first learned of Sean Goldman. We even hav open cases to places like Italy, Spain and Swizterland, countries that we usually think of as civilized.

Mexicois clearly the biggest problem and worst offender. Because Brazil is making an effort to be an emerging nation, there is probably a greater possibility that we can have an impact there. But the chances of getting any significant changes made with Mexico are so daunting. Maybe the best hope is that Brazil does something to hold its judiciary responsible for following the Hague, and that other countries are then held to the same fire.
