["I believe that the people here are intelligent enough to realize this Law needs changed. Thursday, 2:10 PM

Mr. Farnan. What a great Teacher! He told me that I should write when I was in 7th grade. To be honest, if I'd known then what I do now, I wouldv'e never written a thing..!

It gets discouraging to receive 'Compilations' of Petitions, and realize that mine is not included, because what I'm fighting against is the 'Base Root' of all of our problems.

Honesty and Fairness. 'Truth', and "Justice for All."

That is what everyone on this Site is looking for. I'm hoping that I am making that 'ripple' towards these goals, but if I am it's hard to see it.

[I have one signature today, two yesterday. (Thank goodness there are more of them today.)]

The 'Essense' of our Constitution was not to make people work without pay, it was meant to ensure 'Justice and Integrity' within our systems of Government.

Our Government
supposedly works for 'The Greater Good', I do believe we pay them. They 'subordinate' our 'Rights' so that Corporations can lie, cheat, and steal. It's unethical, we shouldn't allow it.

What's right, and what's wrong? It's up to the individual to decide, and to make themselves be heard. I am screaming, and I have been for quite some time, but am I really being heard?

Thank you so much for your response, it's greatly appreciated!"])

["We, the Undersigned, endorse the following petition:

Copyright - Get Rid of the 3-year Statute of Limitations

Target: Congress
Sponsor:
D. Carpenter
  • Signatures: 1,245
  • Goal: 35,000
  • Deadline: Ongoing...
ANTI-PLAGIARISM 'BILL' - Vote For Honesty and Trust..!

Our 'Protected Rights' are supposed to be for 70 years after our death, they have drastically reduced this to a mere 3 years, and that's only if we catch someone stealing our writings, art, etc..., in time to file a Lawsuit.

The STATUTE of LIMITATIONS has no place in our society as it promotes Infringement/Theft, and proves that our Laws don't work for US. "

Please help to restore our Copyright Protections to,
"70 years past Death, not 3 years past theft " ]

Respectfully and sincerely, Darlene

You have my Permission to copy the heading from 'We the undersigned, etc...' to the end of the url of this Petition and to distribute it in an effort to obtain signatures to change this Law.

While the goal is laudable, to bring copyright law and its enforcement into line, I refrained from signing because I thoroughly disagree with what has been done to copyright law. Our Constitution specified that copyright was to be for a limited time, but the time of copyright is constantly being extended. The entire traditional point of copyright is not to let megacorporations profit eternally from a single work, but that is exactly what copyright is being used for. Every time it looks like Mickey Mouse might pass into the public domain, the term of copyright gets extended. The major beneficiaries of this perpetual copyright will be globalist corporations, not individual artists. Tie the petition to reform of copyright, prohibiting further extension of its length, then I'd be interested in signing it.

Hi, 'Fair Use' and 'Public Domain' are what you are talking about. Thay have Absolutely Nothing to do with My Petition. I'm fighting Against Large Corporate Control...!!!
What I'm trying to do is keep Large Corporation from getting away with Stealing Our Work!!!
They are allowed to steal from the POOR. If you don't have Money to back you up, you might as well Quit Creating, because the Law I'm trying to get rid of is Biased for the Rich!!!
"No Criminal Action Can Be Filed" without 'Civil Litigation' taking place First..!
They changed the Law in 2003 so that "the last infringing Act" became on the day it was "accrued" and/or "arose". The day they stole it, whether you find out about in time to 'File a Lawsuit', or not. The clock starts as soon as they gain access to your work. With the Internet it is almost impossible to keep your 'Work' safe from these Predators. The first thing a thief will do is Register it in their own name. You end up having to prove that 'You' didn't steal it from them.
Then there's trying to Retain an Attorney. One Attorney told me that he would Represent me for $200,000. Where am I going to get that kind of Money? I can't..! I'm struggling to survive as it is..! Most Attorneys have a 'Conflict of Interest' in Representing 'Artists' against these Larger Corporations. Corporations in my opinion 'hold a monopoly' when it comes to Legal Services. I have not found a 'Legal Aid' Attorney that Represents the Average Citizens when it come to Copyright theft. There should be some to Represent the poor to at leaset "even out the playing field" even if it's only minutely.
Thank you so much for your reply. I hope that I have clarified the Issue a bit more. I hope you change your mind and sign the Petition. It only helps the 'Poor Starving Artist!' Not the Large Corporations!!!
Have a Great weekend. Respectfully and sincerely, Darlene

Darlene,
It is not you and not your petition. I am surprised at the low signatures on the majority of petitions. I want to scream at people and ask why did they join Care2 and could they just take 30 seconds to sign a petition that there really is no excuse they could possibly find to not sign.

I go through this with "tons" of petitions never understanding.

I personally have sent your petition compiled so many times with others. I can't fit every petition in when I make a compiled post.

I have yours all by itself and like I said it is posted with many compiled petitions and I have sent it out more times than I can remember.

No One should depend on Care2 alone for signatures. It obviously has a huge amount of members but you can see it needs to be posted anywhere you can find on & off Care2. People aren't pulling together enough and this is just a general statement not accusing any one person. I will never understand why people on Care2 wont sign. It actually frustrates me to no end. I really have no tolerance for it.

Some petitions are questionable of course and understood why people would not sign but too many you can't find a reason at all not to sign.

Care2 has the power to have at least 30,000 signatures in a month easily for petitions that there would be no reason they could find to not sign.
Why wont they do it is beyond me but you can't take it personally. I don't take it personally but it sure pisses me off big time. If we can't work as "ONE" on Care2,then how will there ever be peace no matter what the differences people have with each other? I don't see what that has to do with all working together on any "Causes" in the world. People are too judgemental & picky here /all over the world.
It makes me mad & I see you pushing every second. I do the same. I push and push & urge but not much happens.

I'm with you and I hear you ....
So are others I'm sure. The frustration really gets to me in general .

Your petition is fine. I do keep reading like your comment below that you have one vision/one goal and I don't know if it comes across that way in your petition for every person that signs. I see a petition fighting for copyright laws and to me that is enough to sign .
People may see it a little different than you meant it to be but it states enough that offers no excuse not to sign.

Good Luck goes without saying & I will always promote it when ever I can. It's a petition that has NO excuse not to sign.

I'm with you Sweetie and I have gone through the same thing with tons of petitions and have seen others really almost screaming "what is wrong with everyone"?
I've received many NM's like that and I've sent or posted many expressing that I don't get it. WHY?? Why is it so hard to get the signatures?

Warmest Regards,
Prima

P.S I fight for all causes and I hope you reach a much higher goal as soon as possible. The only I will add is; When I post the DA (Deviant Art) petition .I am trying to help promote it. I didn't write it but I believe in it and I am only trying to help.

Thank you so much for your comment. I do know that you are among several of my friends that sends my Petition on. I also have it posted at other Sites. I hate to say it, but lately that is where most of my signatures are coming from, not Care2.
If it were someone elses paycheck on the line they wouldn't think twice about signing to save themselves, but even though people love the 'Arts' they don't seem to realise the hard work and effort that it takes for a finished product.
I had 9+ months of work stolen. It shouldn't be allowed to go unpunished, and I should receive payment for my efforts.
My book was nearly 100 pages long. It was part of a Series, the beginning of a 'Saga' of sorts for Children. I used my Characters to teach Children Right from Wrong, and many other valuable lessons. They corrupted it.
It saddens me that some people will not defend the Civil Rights of others. I applaud all of the people that have taken the time to sign Petitions.
They are Wonderful, and they are making the difference. If it weren't for their support I probably would have given up long ago.

This all reminds me of the Poem, "And then they came for me." Who will defend the non-signers when we have no more Rights? Who will pay their bills if they don't get paid. I can't. I'm still fighting to change this Law. I won't give up.
I was told that Deviant Art was abiding by the Copyright Laws and that the Petition for them may be settled. You should try to find out if you ever get the time.
I know that it can take hours to Compile Petitions to send on. I've been trying to do it myself. We both work too hard, but maybe our efforts will bring us the rewards of 'Change.'
I hope so.
Have a great 'rest of the' week.
Respectfully and sincerely, Darlene

I have signed your petition and would like further details on the specifics of this. Is there a change in the copyright law that you can give me that shows this? Or something ? I am a believer but I am trying to convince someone else to sign...

["We, the Undersigned, endorse the following petition:
Copyright - Get Rid of the 3-year Statute of Limitations

[“This is what I have a problem with:

["Taken from the Department of Justice - Criminal Prosecutions of Copyright Infringement"]

[" E. STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS

It is important to note that copyright violations have only a three-year statute of limitations. 17 U.S.C. § 507(a) ("[n]o criminal proceedings shall be maintained under the provisions of this title unless it is commenced within three years after the cause of action arose."). See United States v. Shabazz, 724 F.2d 1536, 1540 (11th Cir. 1984) ("In copyright infringement actions, the period of limitation begins on the date of the last infringing act. . . . The trial record reflects the unauthorized duplication of legitimate copyrighted tapes in the same year of the indictment, thereby satisfying the three year Statute of Limitations.") (citations omitted). Although cases brought under Title 18 generally have a five-year statute of limitations, 18 U.S.C. § 3282, prosecutions under 18 U.S.C. § 2319 are subject to the three-year statute of limitations because the underlying prohibition is set out in 17 U.S.C. § 506. "]

[“This is the link you were referring to in my Petition. They took out the part about the "the last infringing act...." in 2003. The new law only cites "arose."

The first link on 'Civil' Remedies states 'accrued.' these words both have the same meaning. The clock starts when the 'Intellectual Property' is stolen."]

It applies to 'New, Original Works' that are stolen.

Thank you for your response. I hope this clears things up.”]

Respectfully and sincerely, Electra
