UPDATE: FEB 17TH 2009

One month left before deadline comes and on the 19th of March the whole forest is logged down. destroyed with all its inhabitants, if not enough money is raised.

Please help by donating whatever you can, and by clicking every day!!!  Losing this forest would be a loss for the whole humanity, not only for the animals who live there and for the precious old trees and rare plants!!!

Facts about Verle's old growth forest

  • 82 hectares.
  • Located in Verle within the City Council of Ale (approximately 50 km northeast of Gothenburg).

  • According to the City Council of Ale, this forest has unique natural and biological values. - The local environmental group (SNF in Ale) has worked for more than 20 years trying to protect it.
  • This forest is a very important habitat for a wide range of bird species, -more than 52 different bird species have been spotted. Amongst these are black grouse, capercaillie, cuckoo as well as many different species of owl and woodpecker and many others. These birds need this forest for survival.

What a total discrace to even think about demolishing this forrest. What is wrong with the human race.
We as humans need forrest's to breath, and to think of the demolition of the flora and fauna is beyond belief.
We can not go on destroying areas like this all because of the almighty $.
I despair for future generations.

Besides the fact that the trees clean the air, they provide habitat for birds, animals, and insects that are also important for earth's whole eco-system. I do not understand why governments, especially, haven't wizened up to the importance of these facts by now. Although I shouldn't be surprised since governments are only made up of people. However, it boggles my mind...environmentalists and others have been talking about this for many years. It seems to me that more people should be conscious of this and willing to step up to the plate.

As Glenys L. said earlier, we need the forests to breathe. One would think that if human beings are too selfish to think about the birds and other species that would lose their habitat, at least they would be concerned about losing the habitat for human beings on earth which includes the air we breathe. Plus, I know that a lot of these people have children and grandchildren...

I do hope that the government of Sweden will reconsider. It is tough; we have the same problems in the U.S.

What possible reason would anyone have for destroying this forest ??? M O N E Y ... and money will be the destruction of this human race. Yes, M O N E Y, it has become more important than all else. Mother Nature is this planets guardian, and will not allow us to destroy this planet - we all know it is all ready severely out of balance, and no knows if we can even correct it (with all our superior tech-no-bull), trust me Mother Nature knows how to correct it, its been done before and will be done again - and GOOD-BYE to the superior HUMAN RACE ...?

It is simply wrong to destroy or even tamper with any forest, especially an old growth habitat like this. Such an important part of our ecology. Anyone that would consider removing this should not hold a position of power.

If us humans keep on there will be no forestry left and that is so selfish. So please stop the madness.

I can't say I agree with what Marjorie said, and I do think that the human race can make a difference, but I think the majority of governments are too selfish and stupid to do anything about it. Sweden is such a lovely, beautiful, marvellous country, and I refuse to sit back and watch it turn into a hell-hole like the USA, the UK or China. All of those nations have destroyed more of their natural environment than even Mother Nature could possibly resurrect.

So very sad to even think that this beautiful forest could be destroyed.....Greed is such a filthy incentive.

When do "We" who call ourselves the highest form of life, on this planet, finally perform like "We" are? These pristine forests should be given all the respect we can muster up! When they're gone, then what? It's time to serve the environment before she can no longer serve US!

Yes, this is terrible. We do however have the capability to replant trees...and that is something anyone of us should and can do!

I signed a petition fo this. Peta is on it to I believe. The eco system is such a perfect balance when left to nature. You put selfish people in the mix for propriety gain, and it vanishes. I have two friends now who were able to afford acres of land and bought it and made it a nature sanctury untouchable by anyone.
