I have recently noticed an interesting coorelation in the numbers of people in crisis & animals that end up in shelters ,consider, there are an estimated 11,000 people experiencing serious financial problems in Vance county North Carolina where we are based assuming at least half of those to have pets then realize Vance County Animal Control killed 5,000+ dogs & cats last year the numbers mesh almost perfectly I know other factors play a part but if we even help 200 people a month,& all factors being equal we help them get back on their feet that could cut at risk pets in half!! Taking this assessment to the next level anytime we are able to establish another exchange in another jurisdiction with similar results it becomes a power argument Taking this one step further,Kill shelters admit only 25% of the pets surrendered ever find homes,but what if half the current number of potential surrenders never happen? That would mean instead of only 25% ever making it out of a shelter only 25% would then be at risk!!
