"Regulate Greenhouse Gas Emissions Under The Clean Air Act of 2009 NOW!"
To: xxxxxxxxxxxx@xxxxxx From: Center for Biological Diversity Subject: Tell EPA: Deploy the Clean Air Act Now to Fight Climate Change Date: Wednesday, May 27, 2009 2:12 PM
On April 24, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson took a first step toward regulating greenhouse pollution under the Clean Air Act by issuing a proposed finding that greenhouse gas emissions "endanger public health and welfare."
At the conclusion of the ongoing public comment period, the Environmental Protection Agency must finalize the finding, and then -- at long last -- issue regulations to reduce greenhouse pollution. Despite this forward momentum, the Obama administration is under intense pressure from industry to postpone or forgo the regulations.
The Clean Air Act is our nation's leading tool for the reduction of greenhouse pollution, with a proven track record of success in reducing traditional air pollutants.
Yet the Act's very effectiveness makes it the primary target of industries and politicians that continue to oppose solutions to the climate crisis..
The Environmental Protection Agency needs to hear from millions of Americans in support of Clean Air Act regulation for greenhouse gases. Please send your letter by the June 23 deadline.

Subject: Regulate Greenhouse Gases Under the Clean Air Act
Docket ID No. EPA-HQ-OAR-2009-0171
Dear Administrator Jackson,
I applaud your proposed finding that greenhouse gas emissions endanger public health and welfare.
The finding incorporates an enormous body of scientific information demonstrating that greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced immediately in order to avoid catastrophic climate impacts.
I am disappointed, however, that the proposed finding did not include proposed regulations to actually get the job done.
The Clean Air Act provides critically important tools for reducing greenhouse gas emissions successfully and cost-effectively.
This law has a four-decade track record of success in protecting the air we breathe, and provides the foundation for a shift to a low-carbon, clean-energy future.
Please finalize the endangerment finding and issue regulations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions immediately.
Our future depends on your leadership -- if you will stand firm against industry pressure for further delays in greenhouse gas reductions, a brighter future for all of us is still possible.
