I believe that unrighteousness among law enforcement officers and in the judiciary is very dangerous for domestic peace in America.  People respond strongly and sometimes violently to seeing their fellow man killed by police.  I expect the same reaction might occur if Troy Davis is executed without a fair trial to hear his new evidence.  Therefore, for the sake of the peace in our country, I pray that Gov. Purdue or President Obama will pardon Troy Davis.  Not only is Davis denied a new trial, but he now lives under a GAG ORDER, and is not allowed to speak up for himself. 

"Just shut the F up and stick out your arm for this needle, Troy Davis!"

I write a good deal about the Troy Davis case because I know how lacking Georgia justice is, and I feel sorry for anyone whose life depends on getting justice out of Georgia's court system. See this article:

SIGN THE PETITION TO REMOVE THE GAG ORDER AGAINST TROY DAVIS.  ALLOW THIS CONDEMNED MAN TO SPEAK IN HIS OWN DEFENSE.  Not only do the unrighteous leaders deny this black man a new trial who was convicted by a Dixie jury that was denied all the facts, but Troy Davis is censored so that he cannot share information that might prove his innocence with the world.

A few hours ago, I met with Troy Davis on death row.

As you know, he is facing the death penalty in Georgia for killing a police officer -- but since his trial, seven out of nine witnesses have recanted or contradicted their testimony. And with no physical evidence to link him to the crime, it is likely he is innocent.

Besides the fact that Troy is facing execution for a crime that he may not have committed, he also told me that he is being denied the right to speak out on his own behalf despite the fact that others in his position are allowed to do so.

In my meeting with Troy, I discovered that 60 Minutes, Dateline, and the Associated Press have all been denied media access to Troy.  When Georgia won't let the media talk to the accused man, it is a flagrant abuse of his First Amendment rights.  In fact, the case of Troy Davis highlights how broken our criminal justice system is... and why we must reform it.  Today, more than 60% of the people in prison are people of color. African Americans make up more than 40% of those on death row.

This summer, the NAACP will launch a campaign to reform our country's criminal justice system with the goal of making our communities safer, improving police performance, saving money, and keeping more of our young men and women out of prison.  But Troy can't wait for this summer.  We need your help now!  An innocent man may be executed. You and I must work together to reform our country's criminal justice system, and we must start by saving the life of one man.

Please contact Commissioner Brian Owens of the Georgia Department of Corrections today and demand he give Troy the right to speak.

Black people comprise 16% of America's population, but 40% of executions.  In Georgia, where Troy Davis is gagged and bound for execution, high school seniors still have Jim Crow proms.  Racism is alive in America's justice system where 1 in 9 black young men are in prison right now - legal slaves, and 2/3 of prisoners were convicted for non-violent crimes.  That means Americans are paying around $50,000 per inmate per year (MILLIONS OF TAX DOLLAR, and many of them may have been convicted of possession of marijuana.  Yet our former Republican nominee for president, Sen. McCain, has a wife who was addicted to drugs.

Please remember, that despite it being illegal and immoral
Many people on death row are mentally ill, like Jeff Wood

Jeff Wood is a condemned mental patient in Texas, and he was not even in the building when the murder he is convicted of doing was done.  Jeff was convicted under the Law Of Parties.  As a mentally challenged young man, he complied easily when he was asked to drive with someone to a gas station.  Jeff had no idea anyone would be killed while he sat in a truck at the store as he had been ordered.  Many retarded people simply obey instructions like poor Jeff did.  Texas already executed the murderer, and now it is poor Jeff's turn - FOR DRIVING TO THE STORE WITH THE WRONG PERSON!

It costs $90,000 more per inmate per year to condemn a man and hold him on death row than it does to hold them in a maximum security prison under a life without parole sentence.

That is money that could go to create jobs, raise salaries for fire firghters, police officers, and teachers.  Instead, that money goes to prison profiteers!
