One of the core beliefs shared by most Care2 members is that everything and everyone is connected.  The impact a person or company has in one location, at some point impacts others on the other side of the world.  Global warming is a beautifully tragic example of this inter-connectedness.

But how connected are we really?
Quantum physics explains we’re all literally connected through energy fields.  In fact, it’s essentially one big continuum of energy between you, the person next to you, the rocks, plants and animals.   But are there individuals that can actually harness that energy force, to say, move an object?  Mainstream science says that’s unproven, and I would have agreed, until I met Gerard Senehi.
Gerard Senehi
Gerard Senehi is a “mentalist” who uses his abilities to stretch people’s perceptions of reality.  I first met Gerard a little over a year ago at the “Alliance for a New Humanity” conference in Costa Rica.

Watching Gerard is a mind altering experience. He can bend a key (which you give him) on your palm with a single finger, while you watch. You won’t be able to bend it back.  He can make forks or pencils jump off the table while his hand hovers 6 inches above. He can seemingly read people’s minds – I’ve seen him do this with friends of mine that I know aren’t shills.

I’m a pretty skeptical guy when it comes to stuff like this.  I’m analytical, love numbers, and trust the scientific method.  I’ve done my research and know how skeptics claim Uri Geller faked bending spoons.  Magicians use sleight of hand and tricks to fool the mind.  But I’ve stood less than two feet away watching Gerard seemingly bend a coin with his finger or make a wooden object jump from the table without touching it. It’s truly unlike anything I’ve ever seen, and I have absolutely no explanation other than he’s tapping into something metaphysical.

Gerard won’t say whether it’s real or not.  His mission is not so much to entertain, but rather to stretch people’s vision of reality.  As he says, “I really enjoy challenging peoples' ideas about reality -- not just to convey that things may not be as they seem, but because I want to inspire deeper questions about truth and about reality. My goal is not to make people believe but to open a little door in the back of their mind and spark a renewed curiosity about the mysterious nature of life...”

To that end, Gerard has been a supporter of EnlightenNext magazine for the past 20 years.  I encourage you to take a look if you’re interested in spiritual enlightenment and the evolution of consciousness.   If we’re to solve many of the world's toughest problems, we must expand our minds to see the world of possibilities – and EnlightenNext is an inspirational place to start that journey.

Gerard will also be appearing on the Today show this morning. (Monday, June 8, 2009)  Tune in around 9am EST or get your DVR’s ready and get ready for a mind expanding experience.   [Update: here's the online portion of the show]

You’ll also find more on Gerard, including videos of past performances at his new website GerardSenehi.com

I have always believed in mind over matter. I believe that if we could use the total power of the mind we could move mountains with a single thought.

I've only been involved with the care2 network for a short time, but I feel that what I've had to say is floating inside of all the members that read what I have to say. I do feel that the ones who read what I write will respond in a positive way. I know this is not always true, but it feels good to say what I've wanted to say for so long, but had no one to say it to.

MY TAKE,

Words and deeds in combination that are right not wrong have more power than bending spoons. When in college we played games at night with a deck of cards. To play the game two chairs were set back-to-back one player would have a full deck of cards. He would take one card out and only focus totally on that card. The other player would then try to pick up his brain waves to know what card he had in hand. There were six of us in that group and we all got good at doing. But what good did that do any of us. That did not work on final exams too many variables. But we had fun doing and passed the long nights of boredom.

Now about some kind of spiritual awareness that engulfs all of every one of us including the rocks, trees, mice, stars and all. That is an old philosophy that has had no staying power. WHY because the foundation of such a claim puts our Creator into derision. WHY because each person born has the right to choose right or the right to choose wrong. And when choosing the wrong path those folks are the ones that cannibalized the rest of us. History is complete with all the examples of those men and women who choose the wrong kind of life. NOW, how could all the good folks end up with all the bad folks in some kind of total all in gulfing cosmic spiritual awareness if they were opposites? No way.

Common sense and reason puts those flights of philosophical fancy to a test that they cannot endure.

Last comment, for any that adhere to the idea that our universe and us is all by happenstance and that we humans began long ago form the slime like all else much education must ensue to get to the real scientific facts that disprove such. For if we do not FEAR our CREATOR who could we fear then? If we take the life of one of our fellow creations by our Creator then we have offended HIM. We are the highest form of intelligence that we know. So now we must do the math. There are far more good people on the earth today than bad. So simply put many more are in touch with GOD as the creative genius that created us all. They revere him for they do not steal kill lame for the need for greed power etc. But some do. Now those that do such vile acts against GODS creation as they are ….. do not FEAR GOD.

Dwight,
Common sense doesn't cope well with relativity or quantum mechanics, both of which are pretty well established. In the past many people believed that the earth was flat because common sense said it had to be. Common sense now disagrees so I'm not convinced it's ever been a good guide.
I have no idea why you believe that some people are incapable of attaining the insight that the divine is within all of us - admittedly it can be hard to see in some people :-) but I refuse to believe that God has created anyone that is totally beyond hope.
And why is it good to FEAR a loving creator? And if there were no creator why would it be good to have someone else to fear? If my kids feared me I'd regard myself as a failure and a bad example. Yes, I know the old testament god would disagree but I've never believed that the representation of God as a bad tempered bully with too much power could be right - such a deity is cetainly not worthy of worship no matter how much fear he generates.
Killing: I'm happy to take antibiotics when I need to to kill bacteria, and I kill vegetables to eat, but won't kill animals except some bugs that eat my favourite plants. Irrational and inconsistent I know but I don't see how one can live without killing SOMETHING.
I'm not sure what you're getting at with the "So now we must do the math." Are you just saying that most people aren't wholly bad?
When you say "They revere him for they do not steal kill lame for the need for greed power etc.", which appears to have got garbled on its way to the page, were you saying that anyone who doesn't steal etc reveres God? Not true in my experience - many people with no belief system still lead good lives and would disagree with anyone who says people need a fear of divine retribution to make them behave.
Also many appalling acts have been comitted in the name of God of course.

My Daughter & I have believed in "mind over matter" for many years. Very few people have this gift. We also believe the healing power that 'prayer warriors' possess is akin to this same gift of 'hovering above the object', except the 'object' is a human being. My Daughter has this spiritual gift of healing. That energy can be heard and felt solely by the recipient when her hands hover in prayer. The CIA has spent countless years trying to harness the energy fields of unique individuals like Gerald Senehi. However, I doubt that any government agency has tried to harness the energy of 'prayer healing'.

Telekinesis does indeed exist! Additionally, there are many forms of 'miracles'. The latter could be manifested by the unburned feet of the individuals who practice walking on hot coals.
