Randy Paynter said that Care2 is under attack as we speak.
He said; "Care2 and the PetitionSite have been under a DOS attack since around 9:30pm last night. The attack is aimed specifically at thepetitionsite.com, but because both sites are located on the same servers, all service has been affected.
At this time, we do not know who is behind the attack. During a DOS attack, what usually happens is that computers around the world (which have been infected by a particular virus) suddenly start sending lots of requests to a website, overwhelming it. This current attack is very widespread and thus hard to stop.
We are working with our ISP and taking measures internally to stop the attack. It may still be sometime before service is back to normal.
We will post updates here, or on our twitter accounts if Care2 becomes inaccessible:
Please bear with us. We're doing everything we can to stop this attack."
---------------------------------------
This is why over the last few days, members may have had problems with the site. If it continues, know that the forces of darkness are trying the best they can to shut down Care2 and all of the good work being done here as well as on the Petition Site.
Someone out there is really feeling the heat from Care2, and fighting back, illegally of course. A DOS attack is basically hijacking a lot of computers with a virus and making them attack the target computer.
An example is provided below. Often thousands of computers are taken over by a virus, which then all attack one computer like Care2 at the same time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Denial-of-service attack
"A denial-of-service attack (DoS attack) or distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS attack) is an attempt to make a computer resource unavailable to its intended users. Although the means to carry out, motives for, and targets of a DoS attack may vary, it generally consists of the concerted efforts of a person or persons to prevent an Internetsite or service from functioning efficiently or at all, temporarily or indefinitely. Perpetrators of DoS attacks typically target sites or services hosted on high-profile web servers such as banks, credit card payment gateways, and even root nameservers."
I am praying that Care2 overcomes these evil forces trying to destroy it! Why don't people use their evil for good in this world?
Yes. This happened last night to me. Luckily, I have a multitude of spam and virus fighting software - quite the arsenal. It stopped me from being able to log in at all. FYI: The Microsoft downloads page usually has several free downloads (for a month or less) of spam and virus detection software. It certainly helps to have more than one program.
Its been happening to me for a few weeks. Mostly whenever I try to send out or sign anything that involves CPS. My computer goes crazy and goes down. As long as I stay away from CPS petitions and information everything is ok. All my signatures on the Cps petitions disappeared. hundreds of my signatures gone!! I had to start over again.
So sad...who could be so unjust so as to be afraid of good people calling for justice?! I pray for peace for all, peace and justice. In peace, Rianne
It is very sad that someone or a group of people are so miserable and insecure that they have to attack such a peaceful site as care2. People who have no morals, values or chutzpah do these things because they are afraid to look into the mirror and face their own demons.
