--------- "RE: Burial Mound again threatened with destruction" ---------

Date: Fri Jun 19 15:24
From: Mark Davis <thunderhawk2062@yahoo.com>
Subj: Fw: Burial Mound

We need your support on saving this mound. This mound was used as a native
burial/creamation site. We stopped them from destroying this site 4 years
ago and now we have to start all over again.
Please contact the Mayor of Oxford, Alabama and let him know that this
mound should be preserved.

Subj: Burial Mound

Given the recent political debate over the Kialegee Tribe claiming land
at MCClellan, I have just about exhausted my influence.
However, there is another important issue for us here in Calhoun Co. I
am attaching a Goggle Earth photo of Davis Farm and the land where the new
Oxford Mall not sits.  Its the hill that looks like it's been given a
Mohawk haircut. The hill between the lakes has a five foot high and 30
diameter burial mound atop it. you can actually see the circular shape on
the top. They are planning on removing the hill and use it as fill dirt in
other Oxford projects, thus destroying the mound.
I have called Judy Wilson with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in DC, but
she is on vacation until next week.
We need to raise some sand about these two sites. Davis Farm is going to
become a softball complex. Please forward this to all your Indian contacts
and let's help stop this destruction.
 Shalom,
 Monty
