Help The Horses Please!
The House of Representatives Leadership has assured the sponsors of the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act that a vote on the measure will take place on the House floor before June 30.
Sponsored in the House by Congressional Horse Caucus Co-chair John Sweeney (R-NY), Representative John Spratt, Jr. (D-SC) and Representative Ed Whitfield (R-KY), the Act will end the slaughter of horses for human consumption and the domestic and international transport of live horses or horseflesh for the same purpose.
Just last year, over 90,000 horses were slaughtered in the three foreign-owned horse slaughter facilities located in Texas and Illinois.
We have always believed that, if given a fair chance and an open vote, Congress would support this complete ban. Four separate times, it has demonstrated interest in stopping horse slaughter for wild and domestic horses by voting in favor of amendments.
The upcoming vote is crucial, and it represents a culmination of five years of hard work by supporters from across the United States. It is vital for everyone you know to call their Representative immediately and urge a YES vote for the Act.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
Please call or fax your Representative TODAY, asking him or her to vote in favor of H.R. 503, the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act. Keep checking your email every day for the latest news, and continue to contact your Representative until the vote has transpired. House of Representatives
When talking with your Representative's office please include some of the additional facts about horse slaughter. See Websites Below.

I have received letters from all of my representatives, and all are supportive except one: That would be Senator Doolittle...he voted for the first bill, but is voting against the second part because he claims that the US can't handle an extra 60,000 horses!!! I can't stand him, he's always anti-animals! The horses would be okay if we just let them be! Here and in NV, the horses have to compete for food with free-range cattle...and the ranchers always win! >:|

Yep Kathy, I agree 100 percent! When I think of him, I think both of the Doolittle who talked to and loved all animals, and then I think..how little he does do!

I've been following this particular issue for quite some time and have recently been in contact with my rep , referring to the Humane Society's stand , criticising the USDA for , basically , selling out to foreign companies. There's something so disturbingly...I don't know... "un-American" about slaughtering, selling, and eating horses. The USDA should not be allowed to make such compromises. Please , do all you can to see that this ban is kept in place .

Thanks for posting the wonderful song by Maria Daines. She just finished another song for the US Horses called 'I wanna run free'. It's super fantastic!!! Go to
http://www.maria-daines.com/music-20.html
to hear the song. It's a very American horse theme to motivate Americans to call and fax their senators and congress people to help end horse slaughter. It's awesome! Check it out! Willie Nelson even wrote to Maria after hearing this song and complimented her on it!!! Cool!!!
