Gdybym mówił językami ludzi i aniołów,

a miłości bym nie miał,
stałbym się miedzią brzęczącą lub dźwięczącymi Cymbałami.
Gdybym posiadał dar prorokowania
i poznał wszystkie tajemnice i wszelką wiedzę,
a wiarę miałbym taką, że góry bym przenosił,
a miłości bym nie miał,
byłbym niczym.
Gdybym też innych nakarmił wszystkim, co posiadam,
i szczycił się, że wydałem własne ciało,
a miłości bym nie miał,
niczego bym nie zyskał.
Miłość jest cierpliwa, szlachetna,
miłość nie zazdrości, nie przechwala się,
nie jest zarozumiała,
nie postęuje nieprzyzwoicie,
nie szuka siebie,
nie wybucha gniewem,
nie liczy doznanych krzywd,
nie cieszy się z niesprawiedliwości,
lecz raduje siÄ™ prawdÄ….
Wszystko wytrzymuje,
wszystkiemu wierzy,
wszystkiemu ufa,
wszystko przetrwa.
Miłość nigdy się nie kończy.
Inaczej niż dar prorokowania, który ustanie,
języki, które zanikną,
czy wiedza, której zabraknie.
Tylko po części poznajemy i po części prorokujemy.
A kiedy nadejdzie to, co doskonałe,
zaniknie to, co częściowe.
Gdy byłem dzieckiem,
mówiłem jak dziecko,
myślałem jak dziecko,
rozumowałem jak dziecko.
Gdy stałem się człowiekiem dojrzałym,
wyzbyłem się tego, co dziecięce.
Teraz widzimy niewyraźnie, jak w zwierciadle,
potem będziemy oglądać twarzą w twarz.
Teraz poznaję po części,
potem poznam tak, jak sam zostałem poznany.
Teraz więc trwają wiara, nadzieja i miłość - te trzy.
Z nich zaś największa jest miłość.
