Inmates condemened prior to definitive DNA testing methods would like to use DNA tests to prove innocence.  Should they have that right? The Supreme Court voted 5 to 4 that they should NOT in July.

How say you?

Description: Should inmates who were convicted prior to advanced DNA testing methods be allowed DNA tests to prove their innocence, or should they linger in prison and some be executed without getting DNA tests that many have requested?  GO TO THIS LINK TO TAKE THE POLL:  http://www.votingcentral.com/VotingCentral/displayPoll.do?pollId=12205f3f-bf34-163d-b520-09c7ffffffad
True or False? - Prisoners should have the right to post-conviction DNA testing to possibly prove their innocence.

a] Yes, give all prisoners the right to prove their innocence, even though they already exhausted their appeals.

b] No, do not allow post-conviction DNA tests.

Comments:

Wmn4mccain, Thanks for your comment. Whereas the percentage of innocent people imprisoned may be low, the percentage of innocent people who requested DNA testing might be high. Most guilty inmates are unlikely to request DNA testing to absolutely prove their guilt. Question: How many innocent imprisoned or executed people is too many? By MaryNeal - 08/16/2009 02:01 AM MST-

I appreciate everyone who took the test. I am surprised that two people do not think inmates should have every opportunity to prove their innocence. By MaryNeal - 08/16/2009 01:24 AM MST-

This is a no-brainer. Of course convicted prisoners should have the right to DNA testing to possibly prove their innocence. My guess is the percentage of criminals being proved innocent will be very low even with DNA testing. By wmn4mccain - 07/21/2009 06:11 PM MST

Yeah I believe they should if the DNA is available.By Karlann - 07/02/2009 01:28 AM MST
