Las Nieves, the wonderful Association in Madrid and the Foundation FAADA
have created a petition to stop the dreadful cruelty to the galgos (greyhounds) in Spain. 50.000 galgos each year are burnt alive, hanged, thrown live into wells, shot or beaten to death; but their lives, before the final cruelty, is just as bad! They are always severely starved, live in extreme overcrowding conditions in small dirty and cold sheds often in total darkness and are constantly abused. Anyone that knows this breed in Spain can appreciate this dog's gentleness and loving nature, they make wonderful pets and yet no breed has to suffer more cruelty than the poor galgos! PETITION AGAINST THE MASSACRE OF GALGOS IN SPAIN
(Here is my rough translation)
when Spain commemorates the 4º Centennial of the Quijote, celebrations will take place in Madrid which will be shown to be a proud country of the first world, Yet it seems to us shameful and an embarresment that you continue to allow such cruelty to go on in this way.
The only efficient way to avoid this is to introduce a state animal protection law forbidding the indiscriminate breeding of galgos. Thousands and thousands of greyhounds are sacrificed in the kennels of towns and cities. Only a few lucky ones live, thanks to the efforts of animal protectors
BUT THIS IS NOT THE SOLUCION. From now on, we ask the government to urgently take active measures against this massacre that is allowed year after year in Spain.Whilst this situation continues I am too disgusted to visit your country

Signed it Missy, only wanted help to fill in the box really, however I think it'll be alright. I agree with Elle, I'd like to go out their and rescue them all. This must be some "festival" atrocity I haven't heard of before ( I thought I knew them all), such as throwing goats and donkeys off chuch towers, running bulls with horns set alight. I know a lot of my fellow countrymen buy homes and go on holiday to Spain, but neither I or any member of my family would ever put a penny into Spains economy. I wrote and told the Spanish Embassy so some years ago. They never replied. |

Please stop abuse and cruelty for the beautiful animals that have such big hearts and are so full of love. How could someone abuse something so special and that does not deserve this. Please tighten the laws on abuse.
