MR JOHNSON TORIBIONG PRESEIDENT OF THE PACIFIC ISLAND OF PALUA HAS DECLARED A 200 NM EXCLUSION ZONE AROUND PALUA AS A SHARK RESERVE .

THE AREA IS FAMOUS FOR ITS DIVING AND MANY TYPES OF SHARKS ARE TO FOUND IN THE WATERS INCLUDING THE WHITE FIN TIP SHARK WHICH IS USED IN SHARK FIN SOUP, WHICH ATTRACTES MANY FISHERMAN FROM OUTSIDE THE COUNTRY.

PALUA IS THE FIRST COUNTRY TO IMPOSE SUCH A ZONE AND IT IS HOPED THAT OTHERS WILL FOLLOW.

PALUA IS A COLLECTION OF 200 ISLANDS AND TO SET UP SUCH A ZONE MUST HAVE BEEN A DIFFICULT DECICION , ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THAT THEY ONLY HAVE ONE BOAT TO POLICE THE ZONE .
