My name is Mark Svensson. I am a student at the State University of New York (SUNY) Rockland. In the fall of 2008, former Sudanese Slave and human rights activist Simon Deng spoke at my campus about his personal account of being a slave. Before leaving Simon left us with the message that it only take 1 individual to help make a difference in this world.

Currently, my college along with several other colleges and universities have teamed up in an effort to support a crucial anti slavery bill which if passed, would establish the first U.S commission aimed solely at monitoring and combating modern day slavery in all its forms. We have been utilizing both an electronic and hard copy letter signing campaign to generate support for this bill. Slavery has plagued the human species for over 5,000 years, and yet here in the 21st century it is more prevalent now than ever before.
