Write to the Ambassador of Japan to Australia and express your outrage at Japan's annual mass slaughter of dolphins (H.E. Mr Taka-aki Kojima, Ambassador of Japan to Australia).

SAMPLE LETTER:
Dear Ambassador Taka-aki Kojima,
I am shocked to learn of a malicious slaughter that occurs annually in Taiji, Japan. Each year, in a secluded and protected cove, greater than 23,000 porpoises and dolphins are brutally massacred in concealed manners. Indeed, until a courageously dedicated group of activists secretively gained access to this yearly butchery, the world remained unknowing, with Japan's own populace largely oblivious to the slaughter that stained its shores with the blood of innocent, sentient animals.
Please allow me to illustrate this unparalleled savagery. This massacre involves manipulating the dolphins' destination by forcing them together and into a cove, an area from which they are unable to escape. Once imprisoned in the cove, they are viciously attacked, causing blatant torment and prolonged suffering. While this hunt is not justified traditionally, economically, or ecologically, establishing only materialistic greed as motive, it is additionally significant to illustrate these actions as evidence of arrogance, indifference, and a gross disrespect of international law. As such, I respectfully request that Japan immediately cease this indefensible hunt. Additionally, with the release of the documentary "The Cove" and subsequent generated interest, it is important to recognize that the world will not only learn of the depths of cruelty sanctioned by Japan, but it will also demand relief on behalf of our sentient friends.
I also ask that you please understand the importance of acknowledging animals as possessing sentience: indeed, animals, like humans, are capable of fear, love, pain, and suffering; humans have the obligation and the capacity for empathy, and we must utilize our gifts to protect them, not apathetically condemn them to potentially criminal and decidedly insufferable acts. Taiji's disregard and exploitation of this vulnerable group of beings is unacceptable and the global community will collectively voice censure of Taiji resulting in Japan's sacrifice of vital tourism and commerce profits. Consequently it would be financially irresponsible and socially unethical for Japan to be associated with such a scorned city's maligned ritual. Therefore, please act in a compassionate and respectful manner and command Taiji to stop its malevolent hunt against innocent animals.
I understand your time is limited and I want to thank you for your consideration of this urgent matter.

SAMPLE LETTER:
TO: Honourable Prime Minister of Japan, Mr. Yukio Hatoyama TO: The Perth Office of the Japanese Consul & the Japanese Ambassador to Australia
Dear Sir,
We, the people of the world united, write to you as a friend of Japan and Japanese culture to ask for your help in bringing an end to the Cruel and Barbaric slaughter of our friends of the Oceans – The Dolphins.
This is not a tradition – to modern times and Japanese survival needs, and all practices and traditions need to be reviewed in the context of their current utility. It is merely about 70 years (3 generations) old practise. The majority of Japanese have never tasted Dolphin meat and nor have they heard about Japanese people eating Dolphin meat till now.
The major consumers of fish on this planet are people. Killing Dolphins and Whales will not return Fish stocks to any positive levels. Fish farming and sustainable fishing is the only solution. Japan has the largest Fish Markets of the Northern Hemisphere – This is for Human consumption of fish and for the Dolphins consumption!
Dolphin meat also contains toxic levels of Mercury, Methyl Mercury and PCBs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7ieUowel1M and http://www.savejapandolphins.org/mercurypoisoning.php) – to allow the consumption of this meat by the people of Japan is crime against your own people and it is very big price Japan will pay in the years to come with malformed births and generations of disabled children and adults unable to contribute to Japanese growth and becoming a burden on the Japanese health care system and to the eventual demise of Japan as a healthy and industrious nation. Soon you will be a nation of diseased and weak people as a result of this mercury contaminated meat consumption – unable to compete in the Global stage. Surely this is not what you wish for a great nation – I am sure of that – so please do something NOW!
This cruel and barbaric practice of killing Dolphins is bringing a great deal of shame to the Japanese people all over the world and in Japan. This is not something you want continuing – to be written into history books and retold to generations to come.
Many Japanese people, including those in Broome - Western Australia and Taiji - Japan, are suffering as a result of this practice (of Cruel and Barbaric Slaughtering of Dolphins) and the reputation of Japan as a nation and of that of the Japanese people as a intelligent and compassionate race is being severely damaged – soon beyond repair.
The mistakes of the past cannot be erased and nor can they be forgotten – but the history of the future can be written today by yourself and your cabinet.
Sir – be the one that people of Japan and the world can look to - for leadership and decisiveness in these troubled times and redeem Japan’s reputation as environmental vandals. Be the example to the world that we have to follow, as you have done in industries like vehicles, electronics, science and telecommunications and now environmental management.
We plead with you to legislate to prohibit the slaughter of these beautiful animals that would save your life in the ocean without hesitation if the opportunity arose.
We, the people of the world, beg you to listen to our cries, the cries of your people damaged by Mercury in the past and put and end to the slaughter of Dolphin meat.
