If you like to watch rugby, there is probably one team that is your favourite, the one you root for. However, when it comes to betting on rugby, loyalty to one team is not always the best strategy. During the course of a season, teams change players and coaches almost constantly. When these things change, a team's luck can change drastically as well - which it is why it is important, as a punter, for you to monitor the performance ups and towns of all the Super League teams.

Before the season starts, it makes sense to do some research. You can assess how well a rugby team will perform by reading the sports news, researching player performances on the internet, and tracking the management style of various coaches. Rugby is a sport where the punter can really have an advantage. In football, line-ups and formations change constantly, but in rugby, the teams play in the same positions and line-ups each game, so you can get used to how good one team is time after time.

Make sure you look at all the aspects of the rugby team - the pack (the offence up front), the line-outs, and the scrums. Defence is also becoming increasingly important, as more people realize that being big and aggressive does not always guarantee a win. Playing strategically and defensively is often more effective than playing offensively, and you should favour teams that exhibit these clever skills. Good kicking ability is another aspect you should look for in a rugby team. Of course this is important for getting goals, but it is also important when it comes to gaining territory on the field.

Make sure you consider all these things when choosing a team to place your bets with. A well-balanced team will be a winning team most of the time. Some teams are one-dimensional - they will rely on their offence or on one other strength but will be deficient in other areas. Also, keep an open mind. With players and coaches rotating constantly, the stereotype you have of a team one year may not be true the next year.
