Please Help me to "Pack Away" Childhood Hunger in Ottawa
Nov 9, 2009
Hello Care2 Family!
I am writing to ask for your support in a huge project I have undertaken. I would like to start a program in Ottawa called Snacks in Packs. It would provide food for elementary school children who are facing food insecurity. It is based on a highly successful American program that has spread to 49 states. The program's main goal is to ensure that children in need are looked after and provided with food to help keep them nourished when other resources are not available (ie; when food banks are closed on the weekends/holidays or when their school Breakfast/Lunch Program is not operating during the weekends and school breaks.)
The Ottawa Food Bank seems enthusiastic to partner on it and I am hoping to get funding for a one year pilot project through a competition with the Aviva Community Fund. Aviva Insurance is offering up to 250,000$ to community projects across Canada. Only the projects with the most online votes get to the final round, so I am trying to spread the word as much as I can.
I was wondering if you might be able to help me spread the word to your network, if you think they might be interested in supporting the program by voting online. If it isn't too much trouble, I would be so grateful. I have a lot of faith that this program could really help better the lives of people in our community.
Thank you all so much, I am very grateful. You guys are truly amazing and your incredible work inspires me constantly!!
Have a wonderful night! Alyse Schacter
P.S. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or suggestions- I would love to hear from you! My email address is: alysetalia@rogers.com
Lets pack away childhood hunger one backpack at a time!
Aviva Insurance has set out a challenge: post a project on their site that gets the most votes and have your community effort funded. Alyse Schacter has an idea that would help fund a pilot project here in Ottawa. Snacks in Packs would discreetly distribute a backpack filled with nutritious, child-friendly and easy to prepare food to kids who need it before a weekend/holiday to ensure that the child is well-fed when the food bank and community pantries are closed.
How can you help?
This is a contest of popular vote. To get through the next two rounds. Everyone would need to vote on-line EVERY DAY for the next month (October 29 to November 29).
The Snacks and Packs (by Alyse Schacter) profile should be displayed.
You have to register, but it is a quick process!
Click on the Register Now button in the top right hand corner.
Fill out the required information.
Go to the search button and type “Alyse Schacter” as a key word
Snacks in Packs will appear on the screen, click on it and there will a be “Cast a Vote” button on the top right. Click on that and watch the numbers climb!
Every vote counts! You can vote once every day from as many email addresses as you can register! If you can, please spread the word, the more the merrier!
