TWO URGENT PETITIONS DEMAND AN END TO THE BOMBARDMENT OF LEBANON
Jul 19, 2006
PLEASE SIGN BOTH OF THESE URGENT PETITIONS CALLING FOR AN END TO THE BOMBARDMENT OF LEBANON I am sure that I am joined by numerous other Care2 friends in thinking about the peril the Lebanese people face during this period of conflict. I fear for their safety as the bombardment of their homeland continues unabated. I just signed two Petitions and strongly urge you to do the same.
Lebanese civilians have been under the constant attack of the state of Israel for several days. The State of Israel, in disregard to international law and the Geneva Convention, is launching a maritime and air siege targeting the entire population of the country. Innocent civilians are being collectively punished in Lebanon by the state of Israel in deliberate acts of terrorism as described in Article 33 of the Geneva Convention. (Imported Text)
As a UK subject I am cognizant of the part that Britain has played in the “creation” of Nations without regard to their original boundaries, land ownership or the ethnicity of their peoples; I am not proud of this sad chapter in our history. The appalling legacy of greedy European colonial dominance and US interference is the route cause of so many conflicts throughout the world today. The US has taken over the role of world bully, motivated once again by strategic global dominance, primarily for the acquisition and control of world resources. The so called “War on Terrorism” is just a devious excuse to forward this US agenda. Europe and the US must exercise a moderating influence now to help undo the harm that we precipitated in both areas of current conflict in the Middle East to help bring peace to this troubled region. Our continued unquestioning support of Israeli aggression and occupation will spawn more acts of terrorism by desperate people who seek to end this oppression. My heart goes out to the innocent civilians who remain under bombardment and in danger. Both Britain and the US must stop posturing with their ludicrous statements on the need to defeat terrorists by slaughtering civilians and destroying vital regional infrastructure. Persisting in a policy of supporting tyranny, ignoring a multitude of serious human rights violations committed by Israel, while stalling over or promoting one-sided diplomacy will never bring an end to the scourge of terrorism. Genuine peace negotiations will require fair compromises from both sides, but they are urgently needed to end this violence.
Please join me in appealing for an end to the violence; sign these two Petitions and forward them to all of your friends,
Thanks for sharing this. I completely agree with you, that's exactly how I feel and what I think about this situation. We must stand up against the disregard to the Geneva Convention by USA and the State of Israel, and against their sistematic violations of the human rights.

Senseless murder is ALWAYS wrong whether done against or BY the Jews. Blessed are the Peacemakers. Cursed are the warmongers.

A letter on Palestine
The latest chapter of the conflict between Israel and Palestine began when Israeli forces abducted two civilians, a doctor and his brother, from Gaza. An incident scarcely reported anywhere, except in the Turkish press. The following day the Palestinians took an Israeli soldier prisoner - and proposed a negotiated exchange against prisoners taken by the Israelis - there are approximately 10,000 in Israeli jails.
That this 'kidnapping' was considered an outrage, whereas the illegal military occupation of the West Bank and the systematic appropriation of its natural resources - most particularly that of water - by the Israeli Defence (!) Forces is considered a regrettable but realistic fact of life, is typical of the double standards repeatedly employed by the West in face of what has befallen the Palestinians, on the land alloted to them by international agreements, during the last seventy years.
Today outrage follows outrage; makeshift missiles cross sophisticated ones. The latter usually find their target situated where the disinherited and crowded poor live, waiting for what was once called Justice. Both categories of missile rip bodies apart horribly - who but field commanders can forget this for a moment?
Each provocation and counter-provocation is contested and preached over. But the subsequent arguments, accusations and vows, all serve as a distraction in order to divert world attention from a long-term military, economic and geographic practice whose political aim is nothing less than the liquidation of the Palestinian nation.
This has to be said loud and clear for the practice, only half declared and often covert, is advancing fast these days, and, in our opinion, it must be unceasingly and eternally recognised for what it is and resisted.

Thanks Kim, Thank you for this share. Killing is senseless regardless of who is doing it. How can we call ourselves civilized? This is genocide.
Here is another like petition, my friend Pius started; Stop the Bombing: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/362574222

I do believe there should be some sort of plan in place to try to evacuate the civilians to another location before violent conflicts take place. I will not mention his name but I do have a friend in the lebanese army who was living in Beirut with his family when the conflict with Israel started. His family has lost what little they had and have to start all over now in a place that has less than they did before. In some countries it is not like the U.S. where you can join the military at your own will. For some it is the law. Therefore it is not only civilians who suffer.
