Great appreciations for everyone's loving support
Around 1,300 cats that were rescued from the dinner table are facing an uncertain future as animal activists ponder their fate in north China's Tianjin Municipality.
The health and survival of the animals were also concerns, a pet lover surnamed Wang, leader of the rescue, told Xinhua Thursday.
The cats had been locked up in iron cages at a store in Tianjin in preparation for shipping to meat dealers in the southern province of Guangdong before they were rescued by more than 100 pet lovers and animal welfare volunteers from Tianjin and Beijing on Tuesday.
The number of rescued felines was previously reported as 800, but volunteers found 1,300 alive and a small number of dead kittens and a dead pregnant female, Wang said.
"But we may have celebrated too soon. The traders injected the cats with stimulants to keep them alive during transportation. According to my experience, some weak cats will die as soon as the effect wears off in seven to 10 days," Wang said.
Pet lovers and animal welfare volunteers are keeping the cats in hundreds of cages, each containing three of the same sex. Local people have donated food and blankets for the animals.
Two days after their rescue, all the cats were still being housed in three abandoned classrooms of Asia Primary School, in Tianjin's Hongqiao district, waiting for claimants or would-be adopters, Wang said.
Asked where the cats would go, Lu Di, chairwoman of the China Small Animal Protection Association based in Beijing, said "A base for abandoned animals will be established in Tianjin to keep the cats."
Lu told Xinhua that a "1-yuan donation" campaign would be launched nationwide to fund bases for abandoned animals in 10 cities, such as Shanghai, Guangzhou and Tianjin, where small-animal trading was common.
"The number of rescued animals is numerous, while the accommodation at the base in Tianjin is rather limited," said Wang. "Perhaps no more than 20 percent of the rescued cats can be held. But if we set the remaining 80 percent free, they will probably be caught and traded again."
Concerned netizens take action, eight hundred kitties rescued
On the 23rd, a netizen on “Mao Mi You Yue BBS” posted an urgent help needed post: Over 800 kitties are caged in a compound at Tianjin Nankai district, facing the misfortune of being slaughtered and sold by cat traffickers. Several tens of netizens and cat-lovers immediately reached the location, launching a cat rescue operation.
As a result of unsuccessful negotiations with the cat traffickers, the compound’s gates were locked. 40 “cat friends” disregarded the cold and remained outside the compound overnight. The next day, another 70 plus Beijing cat friends rushed to and arrived at Tianjin. After the cat friends anxiously waited a day, the cat traffickers still had not reappeared. After coordinating, yesterday night, finally with the help of police, the caged kitties were transported by specially arranged vehicles to temporary accommodations in an unused school classroom, with 30 volu
with 30 volunteers responsible for taking care of them. Tianjin City’s Animal Health Supervision Authority also sent relevant personnel, to conduct disinfect/sterilize the classroom serving as temporary accomodations for the kitties and the transport vehicles.
As a result of not having any food or water for several days, over half of the kitties’s health are extremely weak, and several kitties have already died.
After the kitties had adjusted and recovered, the volunteers will begin accepting registrations for adoption.
Ding this up, we cannot let the little kitties suffer. I am not in Tianjin, otherwise I would definitely adopt.

People don’t have enough to eat yet have nothing to better to do than to care about cats? However, people who eat cats are too disgusting.
盖子泡泡:
All animals are life. Pigs, dogs, cows, sheep, chickens, which isn’t a life? Why aren’t there people who sympathize with them? Were these animals born simply to be oppressed by man? But cats are dignified/noble? No! We are the ones who are wrong. Without people who eat them there would not be people trafficking them, so everyone think about their own problems, do more good deeds, do less harm.
o迷魂记o:
Those who kill cats aren’t human! They’re beasts!!! Poor kitties!!! Dingding! Hope even more good-hearted people, people who love cats, will help the kitties get through this difficult time!!!
一天不猫扑浑身不舒坦:
Animal protection organizations, China has one now???
Fighting for the rights of pigs, cows, sheep, cats, and dogs???
Waiting and observing…
狂歌踏月去:
Ding this post! Save the cats! I’ve suddenly discovered that this post is from a few days ago, %#&!*%, why is it only getting hot now, it’s already a cup!
射你一脸妇炎洁:
I am really thankful the person who spoke out first, because the first person is very important.
If the first person said:
In this day and age, people cannot survive, and we still worry about cats? Why do you not go protect those pigs, cows, sheep?
And then criticize cat-lovers of being hypocrites. Then following with be a lot of people in agreement.
Following the crowd is normal behavior, but if in the face of ugliness and evil you still follow the crowd,
then that is known as not having a conscience.
Moreover, in China, there are too many people without a conscience.
Even without a conscience, they still audaciously put forth some excuses and justifications.
Helpless, this society has forced people to all become beasts.
This is the soul who started it all.Saturday, 1:41 PM
Tianjin retired teacher Yang Xiaoyun began rescuing stray cats and dogs over 10 years ago. Presently, she has adopted over 400 stray cats and dogs, having sold her own house, and relying on a rented space. With more and more stray cats and dogs, Yang Xiaoyun has already begun feeling inadequate, overwhelmed.
Yang Xiaoyun feeds rescued stray dogs.
Yang Xiaoyun with adopted cats.
I also want to tell those caring people, your donations Teacher Yang has completely used on the little animals. In consulting with Teacher Yang, I have also seen that she does not have the time to give you a detailed breakdown of your donations. Caring people, we very much understand you care about the little animals, but please understand that a 60+ year old old lady is already extremely inadequate for taking care of this many kitty-cats and puppy-dogs every day. It is not that she is unwilling to annonce how your donations are used, it is that she truly does not have the time to organize [the information]. Just preparing meals for the little animals every day, she is already overwhelmed, so may you all please be a little more lenient and understanding!
Common House telephone: 13164073263 (Teacher Yang)
Common House address: Tianjin Dongli District Jinhan Bridge Lao Li Ming Zhuang Village (You can go from Tianjin North train station and ride the 660 to Jinhan Bridge and get in contact with Teacher Yang at the village entrance.)
Common House was established by 60-year-old retiree Auntie Yang. She started adopting stray cats in 1995, in 2003 started adopting stray dogs, and now has adopted over 200 stray cats and dogs, with the amount still increasing.
“Right now we can only live one day at a time. I do not know what will happen to them in the future? They are my children, they cannot leave me, and I also cannot leave them. To me, this is a road I cannot turn back from.” Auntie Yang says.
Look a the contrast.
Everyone help. Moderator, hope this post can be stuck at the top of the BBS.
Very exhausting...
First let me thank you all for passing this around and in such a beautiful way. I wanted to let you know I have received some sad video of when the cats were first saved....the cries of the kitties are more than heartbreaking...they are terrified. Keep in mind these videos are not very clear but you can see enough and hear plenty.

Is there anything more Beautiful than kitties and cats, I don't think so, So many beautiful Cats, but only one woman and a handful of Chinese Activists to care for them and Save these plus 1.400 cats, I've said it before and I say it again, these Chinese Activists need help from International Animals´ Organizations to pull this off, It says in the text, that only 20% of these 1.400 plus Cats can be Saved, how can we just stand there and let it happen, Urgent Help from other Animal Rights´ Organizations is needed now, Media Exposure in the media in the Us, Uk, Canada and other countries on this Courageous woman/activist, cat Rescuer/Saver/Angel

I don't crosspost, and I don't use Facebook, so I send some $ to a nice and brave lady, Yang Xiaoyun.
She needs help from international animal welfare community with finances, as it seems she is doing great with organizing volunteers.

What a heart this woman has.

Thank you Ekeim for adding my photos to your album. For some reason sometimes mine just does not come through? I have added more to my post in the Asia group and apparently these ones are coming through. This is just so much that it's hard to post it all. Much appreciated for your help.

According to China Daily, 10,000 cats are boiled alive EVERY SINGLE DAY-for human consumption. I cannot even imagine the horrific agony these cats die from-as boiling water goes into their eyes, ears, lungs, etc. They are put in large potato bags, so it's NOT a quick death. Why do Chinese people like to torture animals for?
Thursday December 10, 2009, 9:32 am
Luke, they do it because they believe if the animals suffers the better the meat will be and some think it increase sex and helps fight off cold in the winter and heat in the summer. Total crap!!! The cruelty must end!

This is a major undertaking for this woman. She needs help in feeding them everyday. I would hope that she has some people there to help her with the feeding. She also needs donations from cat and dog food companies. Then she needs help with veterinarian care. She is such a giving person. God Bless her.
