My Dear Friends...
I write to you as you are friends in many Countries. I watch, as do you, with a broken heart the pain and suffering that the people of Haiti are enduring right now. I also think we know that Haiti is the poorest Country in the Western Hemisphere, which makes this a tragedy upon a tragic situation these people live in daily.
That being said, the only other people in the Western Hemisphere that are equally as poor are some of the American Indians who live on the Reservations. The American Indians who I am highlighting here, live on the Crow Creek and are living in horrible poverty.
It shames me to think that this goes on within the borders of the United States of America, one of the more Richer Countries of this World. So to me, this is even more tragic to think, that these are our People, living in our Country, and our Country could do something about it, but fails to do so.
Haiti, as sad as it is, we have not so much control over, but to let Human Beings on our own soil suffer, now in the coldest part of the year, just tears me to pieces.
I watch as our President Obama and our two former Presidents Clinton and Bush stand up to microphones and speak of their broken Hearts on the Haitian people. This is good, I'm so glad the Haitians will get help... however at the same time, I've never seen them step up to say the same for the American Indians who live here. Indians, who are Human Beings, that are sick, that have little medical care, that are dying from the cold, from lack of water, food, and that the average life expectancy for the Indian is 48 years for men and 52 years for women! Average life expectancy is 52 years in you see any differance here????
So while we send millions of dollars to Haiti, and I begrudge them not one penny, our American Indians are having their electricity shut off in the coldest part of the year. Every single year the Indian is dying at an early age. Every single year the Indian suffers and yet NOTHING IS DONE ABOUT IT!

I feel like the lone voice in the wilderness
To the People outside of this Country write to your Countries' Leaders and tell them the shame that exists with the suffering of the American Indians.
Please tell them to speak to our Leaders to tell them this is not at all acceptable.
EMBARRASS our so called Leaders...whatever it takes to help these suffering Indians that goes on year after year after year.
Please... watch this video, you'll know what I speak about and why the petitions need signing and please write letters.

This next video is powerful in that it gives a bit of historical context in how the Indians were treated before and how this treatment is much the same. It has not changed.
So watch PLEASE this excellent video....neither are that long.

This Australian is shocked and dismayed and is spreading the word.
The emergency situation needs to be attended to immediately. Ensure the health, comfort and safety of the people of Crow Creek. Sack and arrest those persons leading the destruction of this community, and appoint in their place only humane, responsible, proactive people to manage CEC.
Next, compensate Crow Creek community and individuals for the broken promises, the suffering, and the loss of self-respect and civil liberties through enforced poverty.
I for one am horrified that American citizens have worked in unison over time to cause other human beings, their fellow countrymen, women & children, to be brought to survival conditions and the brink of death.

"The United States adopted the tradition of dealing with Indian tribes as sovereign governments from the European powers. From the very beginning of its existence, the U.S. dealt with Indian tribes on an official governmental and treaty making basis. Political involvement in Indian affairs was a very important part of governmental life in early America. Indian tribes were very powerful in the 1700s and early 1800s in America and were a serious threat to the new United States. Hence, the United States government was heavily involved in negotiating and dealing with tribes as part of its governmental policies. The United States ultimately negotiated, signed and ratified almost 390 treaties with American Indian tribes. Most of these treaties are still valid today. The United States did not give Indian tribes anything for free in these treaties. Instead, the treaties were formal government to government negotiations regarding sales of land and property rights that the tribes owned and that the United States wanted to buy. The United States Supreme Court stated in 1905 that United States and Indian treaties are “not a grant of rights to the Indians, but a grant of rights from them — a reservation of those not granted.” Thus, while tribal governments sold some of their rights in land, animals, and resources to the United States for payments of money, goods, and promises of peace and security, the tribes held onto or reserved to themselves other lands and property rights that they did not sell in the treaties. The United States Supreme Court has likened these Indian treaties to contracts between “two sovereign nations.” Congress needs to wake up, for they are asleep on the job!
"The Crow Creek Sioux Reservation encompasses Buffalo County and portions of Hyde and Brule Counties. Crow Creek Sioux Tribe is consistently documented as one of the poorest Reservations in the Nation, with 78% of their members living below the poverty line. These people desperately need all the help we will give them."
