The US invaded Iraq (called "Operation Iraqi Freedom" by the US administration) in March, 2003. On May 1, 2003, Bush announced the "end of major combat operations". As of July, 2006, there have been 2570 US fatalities and over 18,000 wounded personnel. At least 40,000 Iraqi citizens have been killed. The US has spent and approved to spend in Iraq $435 billion in US taxpayers' money.
