Tell everyone that H.R.619 is the congressional bill to resume Medicaid for psychiatric inpatients. START WITH YOUR CARE2 GROUPS! Ask your group host to draft a letter on behalf of your group, and post your own letter as a discussion item. Medicaid presently has an exemption for mental hospitalization that has been in place since the 1970's. As a result, our jails and prisons filled with sick people! According to PEW, our prison costs are over $50 billion yearly, and around $185 billion per year when factoring in police services and trials - often AFTER avoidable tragedies! Americans have many concerns where money would actually help. On the other hand, no one's mental health is improved by imprisonment.
