hi there, my son just started medication, (focalin) because he is continually running tv shows in his head. he speaks the shows all the time & its driving me INSANE!!! turning off tv isnt the solution, cuz he does the same thing with songs he likes. its just the kind of brain he has. like a tape recorder w/ no off button. the meds arent helping, but i told the Dr. i'd give it a try so we would know if it worked. ANY SUGGESTIONS??

Bless your heart, I know that has to be so nerve wracking. My grandson repeats phrases over and over. He only learn to talk last year. Before that he had his own language no one could understand. And he called ALL of us mama until this past year. He did not potty train until about six months ago. He is six by the way. Could you buy him a CD player with headphones? I don't know if it would work but it might be worth a try. I would start out with a cheap pair first.

I understand your frustration. You would be absolutely floored at the difference a Gluten Casi en free diet can make. my son doesn't repeat movies anymore and he now sleeps through the night. His tics are almost completely gone and he very seldom stimms. Diet has been everything to us. WE make sure the only foods he eats are all organic and GFCF. You should try the diet before drugs because the drugs are only a temporary fix and they can cause the symptoms of autism to become worse over time.

This sounds familiar. My 7 year old was especially like that at 3 and 4. After his next MMR at age 5, things changed. His communication had improved by then with therapy at school, but the repetitive behaviors then turned physical. He had to pace, even run and skip, back and forth for minutes to hours. As he got older he learned to do this, as needed, but in a location not a bother to others. Now my youngest, at 3 1/2 gets stuck on movie lines (usually Thomas). I know this will change into who knows what. He has only developed language within the past 6-8 months, and I mean explosion. Unfortunately he now has worsening sleep problems (1-3 a.m.). My oldest is now on Risperdal. This has helped tremendously, especially with anxiety. Sometimes it seems the repetitive behaviors are brought on by tension/anxiety. Still, he was 6 when he started that medicine.
good luck

My 4 year old has been doing same...and acting out violent shows his dad lets him watch. CPS backed up his dad's false allegations(and made up some new ones)...and won't release his evaluations to me! His dad would not let me take him to doc without attaching unreasonable conditions due to the order we had. So not sure what I can do to help my son now. This may not be the group for this kind of situation I am in, but if he does have Aspergers or Disruptive Behavior disorder...I have 2 older children as well...and desperately want to reunite them, but in the sanest fashion possible, addressing all their needs.Help!
