IKEA announced that it would initiate a switch up in their lighting department starting August 1, 2010. IKEA Canada will begin to phase out all incandescent light bulbs in their Canadian stores, making them the first Canadian retailer to do so.
As you all probably know, these stores are huge, hence require a lot of lights. So when you think that replacing just 5 regular bulbs with CFL's will save 150 kilograms a year in greenhouse gases, multiplied by the massive number of lights they utilize in each store, multiplied by the number of stores, there is a lot of gas being kept out of the air.
Tip of my hat to IKEA!
