I'm sure most in these groups are well aware of the consolidation of corporate ownership and power of the media (both broadcast and print) here in the US--
--the complete take-over and utter control of just about ALL major media(that means nearly all possible combinations of numbers you put your thumb to when punching up a channel on your remote. Not to mention other sources of information i.e. publishing companies peddling magazines, books etc.)--rests in the hands of only a few bloated companies... SIX, to be precise!
These companies are not only in complete control of feeding [US citizens] almost all material we view on a screen (be it in our homes or in a multiplex theater, etc.) or read in a book, or peruse in a magazine (in some cases even newspapers), but one is a major defense contractor (General Electric)...yep, GE... they "bring good things to life" while being the merchants of death...helping to build and maintain the machinery to kill people and the environment in an illegal war! This did not happen overnight. It is the result of years of neocon/corporate deregulation, maneuvering, finagling, and influence peddling. The killing of the "Fairness Doctrine," the Telecommunications Act of 1996, etc.
To bring the point home in a comprehensive and stunning way, click on the PDF file, linked in the next paragraph, taken from The Nation magazine's "The National Entertainment State/10th anniversary" issue, published back on July 3, 2006.
It vividly displays the present-day tentacled grasp, of these bloated six, on American media... Look at what we are up against!
...And finally; the following is a letter/project (containing a forum) I received from Consumer Union several weeks back. I'd like to share it with all of you, and ask that you consider participating.
Thanks...
Michael Carlucci

Dear concerned citizen and voter,
Only but a few huge media companies already control most of what you see on television, hear on the radio, and read in the newspaper. Now if some of the bureaucrats in Washington have their way, these media behemoths, such as...
-Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. (FOX among many others),
-Time/Warner (CNN, among many others),
-General Electric [GE] (NBC, among others),
-Disney (ABC, among many others), etc.,
...could get even bigger and more powerful.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has begun rewriting long-standing rules meant to keep a single company from buying up too many television stations, radio stations and newspapers in individual markets and they are asking for the public’s comments on these possible changes. The new rules are likely to result in even more media consolidation and less diversity in local news and entertainment choices. That's bad news for consumers and American democracy.
When a single big media company can own most of the radio and TV stations and local newspapers in town, less attention gets paid to community needs, fewer voices and opinions are aired, and the amount and quality of local news suffers.
