Our 3 youngest grandchildren where taken by CPS in Feb, 2006. We did everything they asked of us only to be told on Sept. 1 that we are not going to be considered as a placement for the children, they are going to be put up for adoption to the foster parents that have had them since they were taken. When they were first taken we were told it was to give us a break and let us be grandparents for awhile. Then we were told it was to make the parents comply with services. Finally after a few days they charged us with neglect and abuse. They dropped the abuse but substantiated the negelet charges. We are still trying to get that appealed. The dependancy hearing is Oct. 26, 2006 and up until the 1st of Sept. we had been led to believe that we would be able to adopt the boys. The one case worker even told us that they did that so that we wouldn't have enough time to stop what they were doing. They have made all kinds of false charges against us and even threatened to take our other 3 grandchildren that we have legal guardianships for. They only took the 1, 2, and 5 years old children into their custody the day they came out to get them. They left the 10, 12, and 13 year old children in our care telling us that they weren't adoptable so they wouldn't remove them unless we gave them a hard time. We had the children in our care for 7 months when they changed case workers and that case worker came out the day she got the case and removed the children. The old case work has resigned from CPS and his notes on the case have been lost so when we went to court we had nothing to give the judge because all the positive notes from the one case worker were missing and since we couldn't prove we didn't neglect the kids he found in CPS's favor.
Does any one know of a way to fight them before we lose our grandchildren from the family forever?? Is there a lawyer willing to take a case for little or no money as we have very little or we would have already hired one. Any suggestions welcome, I am very desperate and at the end of my rope. Losing these boys is breaking my heart. t

I am a grandmother who had 4 grandchildren taken in 2004. I had custody twice between 1/04 and 7/05 for a total of 9 months. I have not seen them since July 22,2005. I have been fighting to get them back since they were taken. Lawyers have been paid over $12,000. I found out in December that the state of Georgia had allowed the bfoster parents to adopt them Despite the fact there was pending issues before the court in the home state of Texas. It is an illegal adoption but the lawyer wants another $20,000 to take it to the federal court. I would be angry but for the fact I am so worried about the grandchildren and their father. He did everything they ask of him and it still wasn't good enough.
My grandchildren were stolen and then sold by the great state of Texas. I will not stop fighting because one day those children will know we never stopped loving them or wanting them. I wish I could comfort or give you words of encouragement. I can say this-Trust in God.

did the courts not give you a lawyer, that is what they did for me when the took my son from be. i got him back 7 months latter. i can not see why they took 3 of them and not all of them that makos no sense at all. if you were doing anything wrong they would have taken them all. it looks like the state is in the wrong. one way to look for a lawyer is look them up on the net or call around to see if any will do the probono. sometimes they will if it is close to the end of the year. write letters to congres to anyone that will listen to you. fight them all the way it will be hard and a bumpy road but stay stong hang in there on day you will get them back. never give up hope.

I am not aware of your state rules but i can tell you this that the fact that the lawyer is saying it is ilegal and yet he needs more money, then start out with going public. The more people that hear this the more people will push and nobody likes noise. if I am not mistaken, this is the one where only a few of the grandchildren where taken. If this is the case then start out by making noise saying the state is saying how bad you are but yet, they seem to think the older children aren't important. The fact that they left the other children, would be what the press would go with. It is saying the state is neglectful or they need to return the children. Another way to fight the system is with their money. Sue the state, for pain and suffering of the older children, you and the parents, and the younger ones. These are different types of cases so you stand a great chance of winning. Example: O.J. Simpson didn't get charged with murder but he was sued for the deaths and they won a large amount of money. These are different courts and you will win money enough to fight this system.
But start with a lawyer to sue and go to the press with the other. you will make noise and attention. online is great but you need the area you live in to hear and be rattled.

CPS is stealing our children. I got three of mine back in a vicious fight. The state laws must be changed first. Do not ever give up. Trial by Jury is the way I went. I am going to Austin, Tx April 30, 2008 to testify before Congress about my case. I am also involved in a class action law suit. I will die fighting CPS and there outright lawbreaking, children stealing, profit seeking bastards. Do not ever give up. Join a coalition to fight them. Try parental rights.com Just remember this is done to hundreds and thousands of people everyday. YOU ARE NOT ALONE! God be with you.

I have been going through something with Alabama DHR since January of 2007. I have written many letters and I will give you the following list of the people that I have written to, but one person....decided to look into my situation and now things are really going on now! I want to share this because I know your pain...it is too great and it destroys children's lives.
The one person that responded and has made things happen is :

I have talked with DHR in the past and seemed to get no where really fast, but now I am very happy with the directions that this is now taken. It only takes one of these people to get intrested in your case...be as brief as possible, but include copies of your documentation.
Good luck! In the name of "child protection", Alabama Department of Human Resources in desperate need of reform.
